  6. Spray Polyurethane Foam (SPF)Introduction Spray Foam Adhesive

  7. Roof System Components • Roof Deck-wood, concrete, metal, wood fiber • Spray Foam-2.5 to 3.0 pound per cu. Ft., 40 psi compressive strength • Elastomeric Base Coat • Elastomeric Top Coat • Polyurea Elastomer Coatings

  8. What is SPF ? • Two compounds are proportioned, pressurized, heated, mixed and spray applied to a target • The two liquids rapidly foam up to create a rigid polyurethane foam in a few seconds • The foam thickness is controlled by the spray application technique

  9. SPF Basics • If paint will stick, so will foam • Clean, dry and sound condition • SPF is not going to change the Fire Rating of what is already in place • Pick the correct foam and coating system for the requirements of the roof

  10. Over 1,000,000 Closed Cells per Cubic Inch

  11. Light weight Monolithic Insulation value Conforms to Unusual substrates 70% of cost stays on roof 40 Years + of performance history Self flashing UL-790 Class A rated Renewable Fully adhered No lateral water migration Avoid costly tear-off Foam Advantages

  12. Strong Yet Lightweight 240 pounds on a 1-1/2” sprayed to a piece of cardboard More thickness-greater strength!

  13. Does Foam Work? NRCA’s National Roofing Foundation was funded to investigate: over 140 roofs, check all US climates, check acrylic, silicones, and urethane coated roofs, check aggregate surfaced roofs, compile independent data, publish the data and establish and or verify existing performance of SPF roofs.

  14. National Roofing Foundation Study • Physical Properties of Long Term SPF are good • Polyurea, Acrylics, Urethane, Silicone, & Aggregate Surfaced SPF Roofs Work • Ages from 31 years to 4 years old

  15. ASU Performance Based Studies Group A study of over 40 different contractors Roofs that are up to 30 years old 92% Average Customer Satisfaction Each Contractor is rated and their product choices published Foam Enterprises, and Conklin have participated Annual Updates since 1985

  20. Commercial Building Energy Use *Space Heating and Cooling Account for 40% of the Building Energy Use * *

  21. “The SPF roof stopped all the leaks and reduced our energy bill by an average of $464,000 per year on this million square foot reroof” M. Forrester Ford Motor Co. Texas A&M University monitored 27 different buildings with SPF roofs from 1980 to 1984 and found energy savings, paid for the roofs in 4-1/2 years.-Gerald Scott, PE Energy Saving Examples

  23. The Roofing System That Can Stand Up To High Wind Disasters This building survived the path of destruction because it was sealed with Spray Polyurethane Foam.

  24. Hurricane Resistant Roofing These are shots of a project done by one of our Qualified Applicators. Out of Seventeen buildings in the complex, the lone survivor was the only one with SPF sprayed directly to the deck, the remaining 16 buildings lost their roof membranes. This project was a total of 120,000 sq. ft. This “emergency dry-in” was started on a Saturday morning and completed by Tuesday afternoon, even with several shutdowns due to continuing rain showers.

  25. Animal Rescue League in Florida before Hurricane Frances.

  26. Monolithic Domes Protect 30 Humans and 800+ Pets from Hurricane Frances When not busy caring for the animals, staff members watched Frances through the domes' curved windows, made of a double layer of heavy plastic. "If we didn't have those windows, we would not have known that there was a hurricane out there," Valente said. "That's how quiet it was inside. This storm was incredible to watch -- the horizontal rain and trees bent at 90-degree angles..

  27. During Hurricane Frances, Valente said that he stayed in the domes during the entire storm. "I felt perfectly safe -- experienced no stress other than worrying about what was going on outside the domes. But inside, I never once felt that we were at risk."
