  1. The word “surgery” itself is a terrifying one, and now think of “brain surgery”! Imagine a surgery being performed on your brain, one of the most important parts of your body – that which helps you think, understand, remember, decide, and react! But yes, there are patients who actually have this surgery being performed. Just imagine their frame of mind! While they can’t escape surgery because is the doctor has advised them, there is no other way out, but the next cause of concern for them is the recovery. How soon will the brain recover from the surgery, is the main question. To understand the recovery time, first let us understand the procedure. A traditional brain surgery is obviously conducted within a hospital, where the patient is first given general anesthesia. Then, an incision is made, and a small section of the bone is removed to access the treatment site. After the procedure, the incision is then closed using staples or sutures, which is then let to heal. First, the patient is kept within a recovery room where medical professionals monitor everything from the heart rate to breathing to any other vital signs and changes, or any signs of side effects. The patient may also be shifted to the ICU for a few days. Once stabilized, he will be shifted to a regular room for a day, after which he can be sent home. Patients are given certain rules and advices to follow for a few weeks after they return home. There will be activity restrictions and leave from work for 1-2 months. Obviously every condition and every patient has his own individual recovery time, but speaking of generally, a traditional brain surgery requires a hospital stay of 3-4 days, followed by at least a week or two of care and restriction in terms of activity and work. To get into the

Your doctor will develop a perfectly customized schedule and plan for you, and also a monitoring plan that includes imaging and neurological tests. To sum it up, we can say that a brain surgery requires a patient to stay within the hospital for 3 days, followed by 4-6 weeks or even more of strict care. Although your case might be different than what we suggest, learning in brief about the procedure before you undergo one can help you be at peace as your treatment date approaches.
