Information • They are medium sized and a triple-purpose breed • They have been adapted to “survive on a low-quality, high forage diet under severe climatic conditions” (Milking Devon) • Healthy, long lived • Prosper on management and good care • This breed has never been top priority for meat or milk selections

  3. Description • Red in color • The shade varies from a deep rich red to a light red, can also be a chestnut color • May have white on udder, scrotum, or on the tail switch • Medium sized horns that curve; light colored with dark tips • Compact, rounded form

  4. Temperament • Cow: treated with kindness, the have a docile temperament • Bull: easy to handle, even temperament when treated with kindness

Uses • Minimal calving difficulties • Adequate milk production to raise a calf and also for the use on a small farm • Have great strength, endurance, intelligence, and a fast pace • Used as oxen during the American Colonies establishment • Still sought out for oxen • The same qualities from back then can still be found • Many breeders try to maintain same qualities
