NSSE Survey • Survey of first year and senior students about student engagement • Administered nationally by Indiana University • Half million participants in 2008 • Questions about topics that influence learning and development • student behaviors • institutional actions and requirements • student reactions to college • background information

  3. 2008 Survey Administration • 3,157 MSU students sampled, with 1074 responding • 34% response rate (up from 25% in 2007) • National response rate: 39% • 2008 respondents closely mirrored MSU population according to race/ethnicity • Likely a non-response bias that favors the more engaged, more positive students

Advising Overall, how would you evaluate the quality of academic advising you have received at MSU?(1=poor, 2=fair, 3=good, 4=excellent) Comparisons: • MSU and peers (2008 respondents) • Colleges (2007 and 2008 combined) • Retained to second year/Not retained (2007 and 2008, first year students only)
