  1. Human Rights violated by government Chad The Chadian government has continued to detain a number of people without charges since the rebel attacks in N‘Djamena

  2. WHO? • The Chadian government • Rebels • Detainees • Human Rights Watch( HRW) • Chadian soldiers • Goran ethnic group • Union of Forces for Demorcracy and Development( UFDD), ( Rebel forces) • United Front for Change( FUC), ( Rebel forces)

  3. WHAT? • According to the DHSF leader, Deuzoumbe Passalet, around 20 people, mostly from the Goran ethnic group, have been detained without charges by the Chadian government • Also many people have fled the country for fear of being arrested

  4. WHEN • People have been arrested ever since the attacks in February • Sometimes soldiers come in the night and take away people suspected of helping or supporting the rebels • Also at local road checks, people are taken away or just picked up of the street

  5. WHERE • The people have been detained and taken prisoner in Chad, mostly in N’Djamena

  6. WHY • These people have been detained because the Chadian government believe that they support, help or took place in the rebel attacks in N’Djamena in February • The rebels want to over through the President, Idriss Deby • They believe that the government is unfair and cruel and they want to become the new government

  7. HOW • The people where taken, by force, or not, by the Chadian soldiers • Soldiers searched homes without warrants and stole goods and valuables

  8. International • This story is international because it happened on the continent of Africa, in the country of Chad

  9. Ongoing • This story is ongoing because the detainees have yet to be released and also the Chadian government still have to charge to ones who are rebels • Also the government needs to make the people feel safe, and stop arresting innocent people

  10. I thought that this story was important because it shows that the Chadian people are being mistreated for their beliefs and for supporting rebels. And maybe as far as they are concerned, the rebels are doing the right thing by trying the get rid of the government. • I chose it because it interested me and I thought that my class might find it interesting also • It interested me because the rebels, as far as some of the people are concerned, are the good guys and they are being prosecuted for trying to help the people

  11. Work Cited • This story was posted by the IRIN(Integrated Regional Information Networks), on Monday, march 24, on the website www.africanews.com/site
