  1. The history of the united states of america Grace Dunn LRC 329 Final Project

  2. The United States Of America to this day is known as a country of diversity • In 1620, the Pilgrims and other Europeans came to America for religious freedom • People from Spain, France, and Europe sought freedom from their government and decided to sail to America as well. The Beginning

  3. The Beginning Cont. • As time passed, and new parts of land were discovered, the United States broke up into a couple different colonies. • The New England Colonies were composed of mainly Puritans and Pilgrims came to America with hopes of economic prosperity • The Middle Colonies (Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, and Delaware. ), were known for their diversity of people. Many English, Swedes, Dutch, Germans, Scots-Irish and French lived in these colonies • The Southern Colonies (Virginia, Maryland, The Carolina’s) became notorious for their dependency on slaves, strong faith, and generation of cotton and tobacco.

  4. UNITING AS ONE ON JULY 1ST, 1776, THE CONTINENTAL CONGRESS MET AND SIGNED THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE.THIS DOCUMENT IS WHAT OUR COUNTRY IS BASED ON TODAY, FREEDOM WITH GUIDING RULES.

  5. Revolutionary thoughts • The “Americans” or people in the colonies began to feel independence. They had their own businesses, own sense of freedom, and almost their own identity. • Although the colonies were thriving, King George III in Great Britain became known as a tyrant for many colonist. • King George III hoped to pay off his debt from the seven year war with France by taxing the colonists through various acts such as The Stamp Act, The Townshend Acts, Tea Act, Intolerable act…etc. • This resulted in the Revolutionary war in 1775 and ended with America’s Independence in 1783.

  6. Finally a Country The North The South The people of the south took pride in their slave ownership considering they were making so much money The “seven slave” states broke off from the united states and called them selves “Confederates” Eventually, the confederates surrendered slavery and returned back to the United States • Finally America united as one, however, the north and south began to argue • The “Union” opposed slavery and wanted to fight against the south • The civil war, south vs. north in 1861 and ended to a Union victory in 1865.

  7. OUR COUNTRY TODAY Throughout the years, our country has grown to be a powerhouse. Thankfully, we have a country where women have equal rights, race doesn’t matter, and we all have the same freedoms. • We have three branches that run our government today. The judicial branch, legislative branch, and executive branch. • A president will hold his office for four years, and can only run for re-election one time, which means they can only be president for two terms. • We are made up of fifty states • GO AMERICA
