  2. Alabama is known as the "Heart of Dixie" • It is in the very middle of a group of states in the Deep South. • "Dixie" itself is a nickname for the American South

  3. "The Grand Canyon State" :Arizona(大峡谷之州) • the famous winding canyon carved by the Colorado River • rich in natural resources and has become a favorite place for older people toretire.

  4. “Golden State”: California In a popular Spanish book, a fictional island was described filled with gold. People really find much gold there.

  5. Colorado is the "Centennial State”.(百年之州) • Be mistaken as the Rocky mountain State • It became a state in eighteen seventy-six, exactly one hundred years after the nation declared its independence

  6. Tennessee got its nickname -- the Volunteer State • For the bravery of its citizens • They volunteered to defend the city of New Orleans, Louisiana, against the British army in the War of Eighteen Twelve.
