  1. Otoplasty – Safer Ear Reshaping And Correcting Ear Abnormalities Procedure Otoplasty is a cosmetic ear surgery for changing the ears’ position, size, and shape. People also choose this surgery if their ears stick out far from the head. Otoplasty is also the best option when the ears are misshapen due to any birth defect or injury. Otoplasty is done at any age as the ears will be reaching their full size. This cosmetic ear surgery is a suitable option for correcting abnormalities in the ear. These include protruding ears, misshapen ears, or overly large ears. Normally, this surgery is most important for correcting the ears that are damaged due to the trauma. Is Otoplasty Treatment Always Necessary? Otoplasty provides a permanent solution for easily improving the appearance of the ear. These will be automatically boosting the self-confidence level. For example, when a child is born with prominent ears then, splinting is the best way to correct these issues. The outer ear involves minor functions for hearing. These would extensively contribute appearance of the person. Otoplasty treatment is not always necessary, as some of the irregularities would be resolved even without interventions. One of the best times for having the Otoplasty is when the child is between 5 to 9 years age. The main reason is that this stage is suitable for the growth of the ear, to complete. It is the earliest recommended age, but the person could undergo treatments at any age. Nonsurgical techniques are known as splinting or ear molding, which could be effective when the child gets the treatment.

  2. Reasons For The Prominent Ears The outer ear will be at an angle of about 21 to 30 degrees on the side of the head. When the angle is more than 30 degrees, the ear will appear as “stock out.” It could be due to severe health conditions or genetic features which could affect the growth of cartilage. Sometimes, the injury would also affect the shape of the ears. These are the most common factors that have been affecting the size and position of the ears. Usually, the prominent ears will not affect the person’s hearing ability. Apart from these, the prominent ears could also be running in the family, and they could also occur randomly. More than 30% of the children have prominent ears, which appear to be quite normal at birth. Change of shape could be seen in the first 3 months of life. What To Expect During Otoplasty? There are many techniques involved in reducing the prominent ear. Some of them include splinting or ear molding. These are safer methods for infants within a few weeks. Cartilage in the ears will be the softest during this stage. The surgeon will splint to reshape the soft cartilage during this procedure. Splint supports ears so they can be kept in their new position. The plastic surgeon would be carrying this otoplasty. The surgeon will be using the general anesthetic for a child but local anesthetic for an adult. The surgeon would be making the incision behind the ear for applying the stitches. These will be holding back the outer ear. Manchester Private Hospital is known for providing patients with bespoke Otoplasty treatments. These are specially tailored to meet all needs as well as goals of the patient.
