  1. Mobile Reporting RubinaJabbar

  2. Mobile reporting is about telling stories with your smartphone. • Smartphone has brought almost everything you need in your palm. • It’s the camera you put in your pocket. It’s the voice recorder you use for recording interviews. It’s the GPS device you need to locate people and places. • It’s the minicomputer you use to go online and share your work.

  3. Nearly half of American adults are smartphone owners. • Smartphone has made popular the trend of accessing news on your hand-held devices such as cell phones, iPads, and Kindle.

  4. There’s no standard definition of a smartphone. • Its features generally include an HTML browser that allows easy access to the Internet. • Its operating system provides a standardized interface and platform for apps developers. • Smartphones also have a larger screen size than on  feature phones or basic phones.

  5. With your smartphone you also need a couple of additional apps. • The most basic apps you need to know are wordpress for blogging and site building, twitter for live updates, facebook and Youtube for posting articles and videos.

  6. Some of the apps I learned about in this class are Soundcloud, geoloqui, meporter, banjo wordpress, stumbleupon, and storify. • Soundcloud lets you record an interview and post it online. If you are unable to share it right away because of a weak • Wi-Fi network you can do it later.

  7. I liked the soundcloud app. It has made your job of recording interview super easy.  Now you don’t have to carry a digital voice recorder with you.  • With soundcloud, you can post up to two hours of sound track online for free.

  8. I also learned that in order to know more about mobile apps what you need to do is just keep experimenting with them.   • If one is not meeting your needs, try another one that suits your needs.

  9. Mobile reporting has however increased your responsibilities as a reporter. • Now you have to shoot and edit video, capture images and take care of sound recording, in addition to writing and reporting. • When there are so many things to take care of chances are you may lose focus. • You may also get frustrated sometimes, especially when you are in the middle of transferring data and your device stop working because of low battery, weaker network or for other reasons.

  10. I think we should have done some more reporting assignments to know more about sound and video editing.  • Anyhow, this course taught me a lot about my mobile device. I could have hardly defined what a smartphone is if you had asked me before I took this course.  But now I know. It’s a minicomputer…
