  3. Sh’mini (Eighth) “The Sin of Nadab and Abihu” Vayikra/Leviticus 9:1 – 11:47

  4. Nadab and Abihu • They took their firepans to do their work in the Mishkan. • A firepan is a metal grate for holding hot coals. • They did something wrong. • They did not do what the LORD commanded them to do.

  5. The Fire • As they were offering a different fire and incense fire came out from the presence of the LORD • They disobeyed the LORD’s commandments • Fire came out from above God’s Presence • It burned them up and they died.

  6. Vayikra/Leviticus 10:3 • Then Moses said to Aaron, It is what the LORD spoke, saying, By those who come near Me I will be treated as holy, And before all the people I will be honored…

  7. Aaron’s Reaction • Aaron kept silent. • He did not say a word. • Moses asked the sons of Aaron's uncle to remove the bodies of Nadab and Abihu

  8. Moses’ Warning • Moses gave a warning to Aaron and his other sons. • Moses told Aaron and his sons that the whole house of Israel, would cry and bury his dead sons. • They still had to work in the Mishkan.

  9. The Covering of Protection • It is to obey God’s commandments • The people who are in authority over you like your parents, guardians and teachers. • Those in authority over us are something that God gives to us to help protect us.

  10. The Evil One Hates You • Those in authority help to protect us from the Evil One’s attacks. • The Evil One hates people because God loves them. • Because he hates us he seeks to kill, steal and destroy us.

  11. An Example of Protection - Israel • God gave protection and direction to the nation of Israel • Through a cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. • When the cloud moved, they moved.

  12. Your Spiritual Umbrella • Your parents are spiritual protection that God places over your lives. • “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the LORD your God gives you.” • Other people that God places over your life are your Rabbi/Pastor, Teachers, Police, Government authority.

  13. Let’s learn Hebrew! • “Kadosh” • “Holy”

  14. What Did We Learn Today? • We learned about the events surrounding Nadab and Abihu. • The Evil One seeks to kill, steal and destroy us. • It is very important to remain under the protection of authority.
