What is Web Analytics? • “Web Analytics is: • the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data from your website and the competition, • to drive a continual improvement of the online experience that your customers have, • which translates into your desired outcomes (online and offline).” • Avinash Kaushik • “Web Analytics 2.0”

  3. What Does Web Analytics Do? It answers these questions: • Who is coming to our website and why? • How can we get more of these people? • What are they doing (trying to do)? • What is the gap between what they are doing and the ideal? • What are ways we can close the gaps?

  4. What Does Web Analytics Do? (cont.) It allows us to: • Measure a variety of metrics: visits and new visits, pageviews and time on page, bounce rate and exits, etc. • Study visitor, navigation, and traffic patterns • Analyse site search pattern • Determine if your site has reached success

  5. Our Tool Analytics: • External to our servers • Offered free by Google • Excellent graphical representation of data • Highly customizable and rapidly evolving • Provides marketing-based analysis • Allows several tracking codes on the page

  6. Where Do We Use GA? Google Analytics tracks three our sites: • INIS Collection Search • INIS website on iaea.org • Members’ Area part of INIS website

  7. How Do We Use Google Analytics? Initial actions: • Configure Google Analytics profiles • Configure tracking code and tag pages • Analyse collected statistic • Fix issues on the site • Configure reporting features
