There are many palaces in Jodhpur and many of them have been redeveloped into places to visit, and their antiquity will still make you feel as if you were in the Rajput era. The Umaid Bhawan Palace happens to be a luxury hotel, a museum and the royal residence of the current Raja of Jodhpur, Raja Gaj Singh, at the same time. Besides the palace not only being a historic landmark, it was commissioned in 1929 to provide work to drought stricken farmers of the area and thus it took a longer time to complete. The Umaid Bhawan Palace offers amazing experiences and encounters ranging from its incredible heritage walks to its fine dining experiences. This award winning luxury hotel and palace is well known for its hospitality and feel of immense luxury. The hotel was also recently in the news for being the wedding destination of Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas, a very well known Hollywood pop music star. Jaswant Thada, Jodhpur In the royal city of Jodhpur lies the wondrous Jaswant Thada, a marvellous marble cenotaph monument which is also a mausoleum for the Kings of Marwar. Maharaja Sardar Singh made this memorial in memory of his father Maharaja Jaswant Singh II in the year 1899. The Marwar Royal Family still uses this mausoleum as a cremation ground. The surreal edifice is made up of intricately carved marble that is set back against the red steps which lead up to the entrance. Jaswant Thada is considered to be one of the biggest architectural landmarks of Jodhpur and should be seen by one and all visiting Jodhpur. There is a beautiful garden maintained inside the cenotaph which tourists can explore with the monument. One can always see local musicians on the stairs leading up to Jaswant Thada with their music and songs, ready to play for the tourists. There are folk dancers over there too. This cenotaph attracts tourists from all across the world and is also regarded as the Taj Mahal of Jodhpur in popular culture.  Ranabanka Palace This palace, known as the Ranabanka palace was built by Maharaja Dhiraj Sir Ajit Singhji, located at a distance of 4 kilometers from the Jodhpur airport. This palace was built in the year 1927. The first palace in India to be ever converted into a luxury heritage hotel was the Ranabanka palace.
