The Umaid Bhawan Palace happens to be a luxury hotel, a museum and the royal residence of the current Raja of Jodhpur, Raja Gaj Singh, at the same time. Besides the palace not only being a historic landmark, it was commissioned in 1929 to provide work to drought stricken farmers of the area and thus it took a longer time to complete. Jaswant Thada, Jodhpur In the royal city of Jodhpur lies the wondrous Jaswant Thada, a marvellous marble cenotaph monument which is also a mausoleum for the Kings of Marwar. Maharaja Sardar Singh made this memorial in memory of his father Maharaja Jaswant Singh II in the year 1899. The Marwar Royal Family still uses this mausoleum as a cremation ground. The surreal edifice is made up of intricately carved marble that is set back against the red steps which lead up to the entrance. Jaswant Thada is considered to be one of the biggest architectural landmarks of Jodhpur and should be seen by one and all visiting Jodhpur. There is a beautiful garden maintained inside the cenotaph which tourists can explore with the monument.
