Special Events • October- Parade and Party Oct. 31st • November- - CogAT Testing – administered to all first graders – areas of: verbal, nonverbal, and quantitative functioning (paper on your desk about it) - A-Z Show (date coming soon!) • December- Winter Party Dec. 21st • February- Valentine’s Day Party Feb. 14th • April- Arbor Day • May- Career Day, Field Day, Mother’s Day Show • June- End of Year Party

  8. Walk to Read • Second year initiative in 1st grade • Working in small groups • Strengthening and expanding skills • Working with first grade staff • Letter with more details coming before it starts

Math - Bridges • New program – 1st grade pilot for district • Review of kindergarten skills • Active learning with movement throughout the classroom • Building number sense • Builds perseverance • Graphing, time, money, geometry, addition and subtraction, measurement, problem solving • Hands-on/Manipulatives • Online home access

  14. Social Studies – Essential Questions • What lessons can be learned from current events? • How does geography impact the life of a people? • What does citizenship mean? • How does history influence the lives of people? • How do people support a community?

  15. A Note from the School Nurse • Safe rooms: NO FOOD CONTAINING PEANUTS OR NUTS IN OUR CLASSROOMS FOR SNACKS OR PARTIES. • Can have peanut butter in cafeteria – there is a peanut free table • We are a latex-free school

If your child is absent… • Email the office (Directions on Goodnoe home page) • Email me of absence • Send a note in with your child on their first day back • If your child is absent for multiple days, you may call the office and arrange to pick up the work • Email me to send the work home with a student who lives nearby or a sibling • Work cannot be given out before it is taught (before vacations) • Overall - do not worry!

  17. Report Cards • November 19th, 20th, 21st Conference in lieu of 1st Report Card – Sign up via email soon! • 2nd MP - February Report Cards available on HAC • 3rd MP - April Report Cards available on HAC • June Report Cards Distributed on last day of school

  18. Homework • Check the Take Home Folder nightly • Check homework to make sure it has been completed neatly and carefully in pencil • One homework page per week – please keep this in your child’s folder • 10 Minute Policy

  19. Homework • Math homework • Have your child read nightly and log book or chapter • Weekly Journal: can be returned Tues., Wed., or Thurs. each week *at least 3 sentences: -beginning -middle -end • Week long assignments at times

  20. Birthday Celebrations Options • Bring a book from home • Donate a book to the classroom • Pick a book from the class library • The books are read by the teacher • No treats

  21. Volunteering • Please fill out volunteer sheet if interested • Must have all clearances • Mostly needed for parties, field trips, and events
