  1. Interesting Facts: Monday 8 February Chinese New Year It is the Year of the Monkey the ninth of the twelve animals in the recurring 12 year Chinese zodiac cycle. Every 12 years there is a Monkey Year. In Chinese astrology each year is associated with a Chinese zodiac animal sign and one of the Five Elements – Metal (Gold), Water, Wood, Fire or Earth. Both the sign and element of your birth year are said to affect your personality and destiny. This year the element is Fire. 2004 was the last year of the Monkey. The element was Wood, which means always ready to help others, strong self-esteem but stubborn.

  2. Interesting Facts: Tuesday 9 February Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day is the day before Ash Wednesday. It is celebrated throughout the UK by the cooking and eating of pancakes – a last feast before the fasting and self-denial of Lent. Wednesday 10 February Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent and occurs 46 days before Easter and is a time when some people give up certain foods in the run up to Easter.
