  1. Overview of the Common Core Learning Standards for Math • National standards – adopted by 44 states, including NY • Strongly resemble the standards of the highest-achieving nations • More focus, coherence, and rigor than most of the state standards they replaced

What does this mean for your child? • Students will apply concepts and procedures they have learned and transfer them to new situations they have never seen before. • Students will persevere through problem solving – some of the most valuable learning comes from analyzing their own work and the work of others.

  3. Common Core Math in Penfield • This is the second year of implementation of Common Core in math for grades 3-8 and the first year of implementation in Regents Algebra. • Teachers are using various Common Core aligned resources to deliver instruction – including NYS modules & Ready Math books
