  2. Green School Application Process • Schools must document activities accomplished over a 2 year period (ending on June 1st of the year the application is submitted). Major components of the application include: •  A one-page cover sheet and a concise one-page summary•  A short description (one-page maximum) followed by documentation of the following requirements:•  Classroom Integration of environmental issue instruction•  Professional development•  Celebration•  Demonstration of selected conservation best management practices (BMPs)•  Sustained school-community partnerships to enhance environmental learning

  3. Who needs to be involved? Representatives of each of the following groups: Teaching Staff Facility Manager Students Parents Community Partners

Criteria for Application Community Partnerships Curriculum andInstruction • Meet All Criteria • Use ofEnvironment as acontext forlearning • ProfessionalDevelopment • Celebration • Meet 1 of 2 Criteria • Your School is Active in the • Community • The Community is Active in Your School • Schools Meet at least 4 of 7 Criteria • Water Conservation/Water Pollution • Prevention • Energy Conservation • Waste Reduction • Habitat Restoration • Structures for Environmental Learning • Responsible Transportation • Healthy School Environment Best Management Practices

(We already have started!) • School yard restoration projects • Partnership with Arlington Echo • Science curriculum (environmental units in every grade) • Recycling available • Partnership with South River Federation • $$ Support from Greenscape and Unity Garden • US Fish and Wildlife support

  6. Classroom Recycling 3 Containers Trash – brown plastic can – Custodians will dump after breakfast and at end of day Single Stream Recycling – ALL recyclables (except paper ) Yellow Plastic Bin. Students will dump in larger hallway recycling bin at the end of the day Paper – ALL paper will be recycled in the cardboard box. Students will dump in larger hallway paper recycling bin at the end of the day What can go in Single Stream Recycling????????

Classroom and Office Recycling Single Stream Yellow Recycling Containers Paper Collection Boxes • Loose Cardboard (unwaxed) • Empty Waxed Cardboard (drink boxes/milk cartons) • Flattened Corrugated Cardboard • Ringed binders • Empty aluminum cans • Bi-metal cans • Steel cans • Glass (clear, brown, green) • #1 plastic (empty bottles) • #2 plastic (empty bottles) • Plastic bags/wrappers IF they are bagged together! • Paper (white and colored) • Self-Adhesive Notes • Fax & Telex Sheets • Scratch and Message Pads • Loose-Leaf Paper • Goldenrod Envelopes • Envelopes with/without windows • Brown envelopes • Magazines • Newspapers • Lunch bags (no food waste) • Adding machine tape • Folders (plain/colored/coated) • Composition Notebooks • Workbooks • Spiral notebooks (w/spiral, NO plastic covers) NO CARDBOARD!!!
