  4. COMPUTER HEALTH AND SAFETY

  5. Adjust the height of your chair so that your feet are flat on the floor ; if this is not possible, use a footrest to avoid dangling of the feet.

  6. Make sure you have a comfortable seat pan that fits and swivels.

  7. If the chair cannot offer adequate back support, you may place a rolled towel or lumbar cushion between the small of your back and the chair.

  8. Position the top of the monitor at or just below the eye level.

  9. The monitor should be an arm’s length away from you.

  10. Adjust the color, brightness and contrast for eye comfort.

  11. Decrease glare on monitor.

  12. Place the computer monitor perpendicular to the window or light source.

  13. Close blinds and keep monitor clean.

  14. Check if your arms are parallel to the floor when working with the keyboard.

  15. Relax your shoulders.

  16. Work with wrist straight

  17. Place the mouse in a spot that is easy to reach.

  18. Strike the keys and hold the mouse lightly.

  19. If using copy holders, place them next to the monitor.

  20. Do not twist your body when facing the monitor.

  21. Do not slouch and make sure your lower back is supported.

  22. While taking a break, gently move your neck, shoulders and hands through their range of motion.

  23. Take a break every hour of work.

  24. Focus on a distant object periodically to relax your eyes. • Blink Often.

  25. Break up computer work with other tasks (proofreading a hard copy, writing, Etc.)
