  1. Superintendent Update August 27th 2012

  2. Introduction of New Principals • Nick Sofio- principal at Halverson • Jim Wagner-high school principal • Nicky Severtson ALC • Very Successful Back to School event today. Ice Cream Social was well attended.

  3. Safe, Healthy, Welcoming Schools • Three new hall monitors have been hired in the district, two at the High School and 1 at SW. • Electronic lock has been placed on Front entry way via Tiger Doors. People will be buzzed in during school hours. • Reminder that Students will be allowed in for free at all sporting events. Students will have to provide name of school they attend to ticket takers prior to entry.

  4. Increase Opportunity and Achievement • Met with Representatives from Lou Rich to discuss school to work opportunities. Look to start a intern program this fall. • Meet with Kent Hansen, interim president of Riverland to discuss opportunities • Licensed G/T teacher from has been hired to teach at SW. Students will receive G/T instruction every other day. • Teacher PLCs have been increased from 30-45 minutes a week. PLCs will now meet on Weds.

  6. Effective and Efficient operations • With consolidation of Activities and Community Ed, Community Ed offices will be located in high school main office. • We are looking at establishing a registration Kiosk at brookside. Payment dropbox will exist at Brookside.

  7. Community Ed and Activities 11-12 Part Time Full time

  8. Community Ed/Activities 2012-13 FLEX Between Areas As Needed

  9. How does this compare to other Directors?

Communications • Plan to continue visiting staff on a weekly basis, maintaining blog. • Recommend board and administration write articles for newspaper • External Communications: • Encouraged all principals and directors to join a community organization or service club. • I plan to visit a coffee spot once a week to informally listen to community concerns. Would be a great opportunity for board members to listen as well. Tues-Thurs fits my schedule best. Would like your input as best places to visit. I plan on visiting HyVee this Weds at 7am. • Will be speaking at various community organizations this fall as well.
