  2. Objectives for Today: • Students will use drama to learn new vocabulary words. • Students will learn new action words, verbs. • Students will learn theatre terms.

  3. Vocabulary List! • Slide • Dive • Push • Swing • Loop • Flop • Pull • Think • Dance • Walk • Jog • Fly • Ride • Swim • Throw

  4. Review VERBS! What are verbs? Verbs are doing words. A verb can express a physical action, a mental action, or a state of being.

  5. Essential Question? • “What strategies can you use to help learn new vocabulary words?”

  6. Some Important terms in THEATRE Theatrical Performance Movement Miming Improvisation

  7. THEATRICAL PERFORMANCE • A performance of a play or story or some sort of event.

  8. MOVEMENT • The act or an instance of moving; a change in place or position.

  9. MIMING • Acting out situations or a story using gestures and body movement without the use of words.

  10. IMPROVISATION • To create a scene, story or song without a written script.

  11. CHARADES! • Originated in France in the 18th Century • Charades is a game in which some of the players try to guess a word or phrase from the actions of another player who may not speak.

  12. Rules of Charades • Divide class into two teams. • Classmates will take turns acting out one of the words they blindly pick out of the hat. • Students will have 30 seconds to act out their vocabulary word while their team guesses. • The actor cannot use any sounds, only body movements • If the team is able to guess the word within 30 seconds, they get a point. • If after 30 seconds does not guess correctly, the other team gets a chance to steal. • The team with the most points wins.

  13. Reflection • Did using drama help you learn your new vocabulary words? Why or why not? List at least one theatre term you used during your turn during charades and howyou used it.
