  1. TIFF Images: What Should You Know? Tagged Image File Format or TIFF, in short, is a file format that is widely used in the publishing and for printing purposes. The extensible feature of the format allows storage of various images that contain various pixel depths. It makes it beneficial for image storage needs. As it introduces no compression, the file format is preferred over the others for archiving the intermediate files. Details of File Format While the TIFF does not make use of the compression, as compared to the other image files formats, it supports various kinds of compression. For photographic images, the TIFF uses LZW compression tech. The files can be compressed or uncompressed, but they are more extensive as compared to the JPEG files, and hence they need more space. But the file format has many advantages over the JPEG format. It comes with the ability to store the multiple layered images in a single file. Further, it can use a bit depth of 8-bits per channel or 16-bits per channel. The files can be exchanged between the computer platforms and various applications which use this file format. TIFF file uses the file extension *.tiff and if know for the flexibility and capabilities. The file is organized into a file-header, an image file directory, and also the bitmap data. The file format is mostly used in the 3D applications, medical imaging and also in desktop publishing. There are many converters for TIFF to JPG conversions online. Most of them are free.
