  1. Name: _____________________ Site: ___________ Date: ________________ Plate Tectonics Lab: Volcanoes on Subduction Zones and Hot Spots Materials & Procedure 1. Use the composition table on page 14 to find the type of lava for each volcano. 2. On the map “Volcanoes of the Pacific,” use a specific color marker to label all volcanoes with andesitic lava. 3. On the same map, use another color marker to label all volcanoes having a basaltic lava. 4. On the same map, starting at the letter “A” draw a line, up and around the map, stopping at “B,” separating all the basaltic volcanoes from the andesitic. It may curve. It should have all the basaltic volcanoes on one side and all andesitic volcanoes on the other. Geologists call this the “andesite line.” 5. After completing steps 2 – 4, place the “Volcanoes of the Pacific,”map under the transparent map entitled, “Pacific Trenches,” provided by your teacher. Make sure that the outlines of the continents match exactly. (You may have to hold the maps over a light.) Notice the location of the “andesite line.” 6. Answer the questions on page 14.
