  2. Contents • Summarizing final results of the INTERACT ESPON thematic study on environmental hazards • Approach • Database structure • Examples of maps • Further applications of the thematic study?

  3. Approach • Budget: 20 000 € • Partners: GTK and Centre for Urban and Regional Studies/Helsinki University of Technology • Hazards selected according to ESPO 1.3.1 profiles of spatial relevance • Creation of database structured according to hazards, type of projects and INTERREG III strand • Overlay of project activities and hazard prone areas • Recommendations for future hazard activities. Note: It was only recommended where to increase hazard related activities, not where to decrease those!

  4. Database structure • Title of project • Acronym • WWW • Character (hazard assessment, etc) • Countries (regions) covered • Hazards adressed • INTERREG strand • Contact details (confidential)

  5. Some statistics • Total amount of INTERREG projects: Over 5000

  20. Recommendations • Broaden scope of INTERREG activities, i.e. take hazards and risks up in measures and priorities • Promote activities on hazards and risks in regions where these are most imminent • Analyse necessity of hazard and risk related activites locally and regionally (INTERREG offices) • Take up some results of ESPON database (e.g. support to define project targets) • Make use of TIA approach (e.g. to measure impact of projects on regional development) • Make use and further develop policy recommendations and reporting scale (for overall output assessment)
