  2. Possessive Adjectives • show ownership or relationships between people • placed before the noun

  3. (yo)mi / mis(my)(nosotros)nuestro/a/os/as(our) (tú)tu / tus(your)(vosotros)vuestro/a/os/as(your) (Ud./él/ella)su / sus(Uds./ellos/ellas) su / sus (your, his, her)(your, their)

  4. Possessive adjectives refer to their owner, but their form agrees in number and gender with the noun that comes after them. • Steps for choosing: • 1. Look at the subject and decide where to go on the chart. • 2. Look at the noun after the blank to decide if it’s singular or plural.

  5. Example: • Yo tengo ____ libro. • 1. The subject is yo, so your choices are mi or mis. • 2. Libro is singular, so you would choose mi. • Yo tengo ____ libros. • 1. The subject is yo, so your choices are mi or mis. • 2. Libros is plural, so you would choose mis.

  6. The only possessive adjectives that have to agree in gender are the nosotros and vosotros forms. • (nosotros) nuestra prima • (our cousin) • (vosotros) vuestros hermanos • (you all’s siblings)

  7. Stem-changing Verbs • We have already had jugar (which is the only u-->ue stem-changer) • We also had querer, which is an e-->ie stem-changer

  8. o-->ue stem-changing verbs • dormir-to sleep • duermo dormimos • duermes dormís • duerme duermen

  9. volver-to return • vuelvo volvemos • vuelves volvéis • vuelve vuelven

  10. almorzar-to have lunch • almuerzo almorzamos • almuerzas almorzáis • almuerza almuerzan

  11. e-->ie stem-changing verbs • empezar-to begin, to start • empiezo empezamos • empiezas empezáis • empieza empiezan

  12. merendar-to have a snack • meriendo merendamos • meriendas merendáis • merienda meriendan
