History • Started in: 1986Registration No: 372/1990 under the Societies Registration Act Registration No: 83780710 under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act : (eligible to receive foreign funds under the FCR Act)  • Prerana started working in the redlight of area of Mumbai in 1986 with a view to end second generation trafficking of children of redlight area-based women Victims of Commercial Sexual Exploitation & Trafficking (VOCSET), to protect and reestablish the rights and dignity of the women victims of CSE&T based on a very clear rights perspective. • Today, Prerana is active on most dimensions of the anti CSE&T work including protection, prevention, vigilance, rescue, post rescue operation, victim care services, prosecution, empowerment of victim women, advocacy & lobbying, legal, policy level and administrative reforms, rehabilitation & social reintegration, generating social awareness, research, documentation, sensitization & training of special functionaries, networking, and capacity building of fellow organizations.

Statistics • Prerana today has: • During the reporting period the center wise averageattendance of children at NCCs was • NCC I (Kamathipura): around 150                        • NCC II (Falkland Rd.):  120                              • NCC III (Vashi Turbhe Navi Mumbai):  around 50 • The programs that Asha-SV supports are: NCC – Night Care Center; ESP – Educational Support Program; IPP – Institutional Placement Program • Night Care Centre (NCC): The NCC protects the children of the red-light areas against sexual assaults and the, from traumatizingc exposure to the and undesirable nightlife in the brothels. Prerana invented the Night Care Centre. • Institutional Placement Programme: In order to de-link the child from the red light area Prerana strives to help the mothers consider the option of shifting the child away from the red light area into a place that can provide long term residential care and development. • Educational Support Programme: Prerana restores the right to education of these children and facilitates their sustained formal education. • Other programs of Prerana are – Naunihal (shelter facility for women), Pratishta (Training girls in vocational ed like Fashion Designing, Catering etc.)

  4. Shelter Homes • As per the admission procedure, all the children who were newly enrolled in NCC I, II, & III go through preliminary medical check-up at the public hospitals (Nair hospital Mumbai and NMMC hospital Navi Mumbai. • A paediatrician regularly visits and examines the children at the KP & FR NCCs on every Thursday. • A medical doctor visits the Turbhe Vashi center every Wednesday. • Tetanus and Polio camps are regularly held. • A session is held for the mothers with a focus on HIV/AIDS and related ARV treatment. • Mothers’ meeting is held at times where doctors and others address questions and provide their thoughts on various matters • Puppet shows, Summer activities for kids • Staff was take on out on a picnic. This was a part of Prerana’s “Anti Burn-Out Programme for its Programme Staff”. The picnic was open for those who have completed one year of service. This is the 5th consecutive year of such an outing.  • Organized the “Meet the Alumni” event • Started Naunihal a shelter for girls , which also provides vocational education

  5. 2 month long training in “Food & Beverages and House Keeping” at Mumbai’s prestigious Hotel T Land’s End Bandra- Mr. Steve Feldstein, Counsel, U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee and Mr. Daniel Silverberg, Senior Deputy Chief Counsel, U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee as a team from the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee visited Prerana on Wednesday 23rd February 2011 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. They were accompanied by Ms. ArundhatiMundalay Specialist - Political and Social Issues and Mr. Kapil Gupta the Information Officer at the U.S. Consulate Mumbai. Ms. PritiPatkar received the team on behalf of Prerana.- Twelve of Prerana‘s children PASSED the SSC Board’s 10th exam this year. (All have been with Prerana since age of 3)- Ms. Jill Beckingham, the wife of the British Deputy High Commissioner in Mumbai who had visited Prerana’sKamathipura centre a few months ago collected Rs. 41,000/ for Prerana from a new Dandi March. Will be used to support the youth from the redlight areas currently undergoing training at the Hotel Taj Land’s End in Mumbai and partly for the educational activities of the children - Prerana thanks its close well wisher Ms. DivyaChaudhary and her friends for raising over Rs. 50,000/- for Prerana by participating in the Mumbai Marathon 2011. - Ms. Korshid, Ms. Shehernaz, Shernazh, Ms. Kashmira all members of the ‘Zonta Club of Bombay-1’ sponsored a Solar Water Heating System for the children of Naunihal.

Until Jun 2011- A group of women mostly home managers belonging to a MahilaMandal at ShivSrustiChembur spent their half day on 7th March 2011 in understanding the plight of the prostituted women of the red light areas. They donated Rs. 5,000/- for the cause of Prerana that they had raised - VACATION TIME: Mr. ShiamakDavar taught the Prerana children some energetic and electrifying dance style. (FYI - In 2007 SDIPA sponsored one of Prerana’s children for more intensive and advanced training in dancing who is today a certified Master Trainer of SDIPA. In the subsequent year one more girl and last year 18 children were sponsored to receive training and become Master Trainers under the Victory Arts Foundation of Mr. ShiamakDavar. )- four different residential camps that we are having spread over from the 27th April to 10th of June 2011.; including trips to planetarium for seniors- 7 youths (2 girls and 5 boys) sat for the 10th std. examination conducted by the National Institute of Open Schools (NIOS). - On 12th April 2010 a group of 30 interns from Johnson and Johnson Ltd. spent a day at the Falkland Road and Naunihal centers. - La KHANA EVENT….Fifty children were divided into 4 groups of 12 each and asked to choose a dish which they would have to cook.; Budget of Rs. 250/-- kamathipura night care center restarted

Until Dec 2011- Session on Personality Development with ReehanMirza- monthly sessions on various Topic (ideals, corruption etc.)with Ms. Aruna Katkar and Ms. Vaishali Karande - mothers meeting monthly sessions- regular health sesssions on various topics- On 2nd August a group from Whistling Woods InternationalvisitedPrerana. This group consisted of 12 students from Iran who were studying documentary film making as part of the Capstone Project implemented by Whistling Woods in their foreign exchange program. The students’ course was to culminate with a film screening on 20th August. They had chosen 3 NGOs at which they intended to make their film and Prerana was one of themThere were 3 students from the group who selected Prerana and shot the film over 2 days – 8th August and 11th August. The screening was at the Institute in Film City Complex Goregaon East. - On 6th August the Child to Child Brigade, Rakshak Collective conducted a health awareness event in the Falkland Road red light area. The topic was Malaria awareness. Monsoon Illnesses, Pulse Polio drive - On 8th August 3 representatives from Indicorps visited Prerana. Ms. AparnaDhopeshwarkar gave them an orientation on Prerana’s work. Indicorps is a non-partisan, non-religious, non-profit organization that encourages Indians around the world to actively participate in the progress of the country that defines their identity. - On 9th August, 14 STI Counsellors from Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society (KSAPS), visited Prerana under the purview of the Saksham project implemented by NirmalaNiketan College of Social Work and funded by Global Funds to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. - Joy of Giving week at taj lands end with various ngos- On 3rd October we organized an event wherein we got the Civil Supplies Minister, Mr. Anil Deshmukh to distribute ration cards to women living in the red light area of Kamathipura.

  8. Until Dec 2011- On 7th October 5 members from the Lions Club of Queensway, Mumbai visited Prerana. They donated a gas stove, 12 sleeping mats, 2 thermos flasks and 2 sets of tea-cups (24 cups). - From 17th to 21st October, 6 members (all different countries) from Thomson Reuters spent a week at Prerana as part of a staff development program (of Thomson Reuters) called Generate. - In collaboration with ICreate we conducted a Mini MBA program for 25 youths of Prerana. - On 21st October children from Kamathipura and Falkland Road centres were involved in painting lamps for Diwali. PSWs purchased plain clay lamps which children decorated with paints, glitter and sequins. - On 22nd October 50 girls from Kamathipura, Falkland Road and Vashi-Turbhe went for a visit to Rodas International an ecotel (eco-friendly hotel) in Hiranandani Gardens, Powai …drawing graffiti on special wall and asking people to stay away from buying poisonous gaseous crackers - Mr. Joseph a vocalist, a musician specializing in French Horn and other musical instruments visited Prerana in October 2011 and createD a Prerana Choir to perform on various platforms through SONGBOUND. - On 3rd December we organized the annual event DostiAnandMela commemorating the World AIDS Day. - On 15th December finally had to vacate our Kamathipura Centre.
