Strengthening of ESD activities of higher education institutions in close collaboration with the Global Higher Education for Sustainability Partnership (GHESP); 4. Further development of on-line learning for ESD; 5. Training of teachers and trainers on ESD

Regional Centres of Expertise (RCEs) • A RCE aspires to achieve the goals of the DESD by translating its global objectives into the context of regional areas in which it operates. • Improve access to quality basic education; • Reorient existing education to address sustainable development; • Develop public understanding and awareness; and • Provide training programs for all sectors of private and civil society.

UNU Strategy to Promote the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development • UNU-IAS has established a Global Service Centre for RCEs, • RCEs from around the world and their networks will constitute a global learning space for sustainable development (GLSSD). • The Ubuntu Alliance, the consortium of eleven international research and educational institutions agreed to support promotion of the development of RCEs as part of a global learning space for sustainable development. • Envisioning of the awards for innovative, joint projects of two or more institutions from different sectors.
