Good quality Unique Raises self esteem Impresses other people- they’ve maybe seen someone in Hello magazine wearing the same item Rich people buy them- a badge that you’ve arrived and are successful Put money into the economy- retail, manufacturing, service industries- lots of jobs depend on people buying them Dior; Dolce et Gabana; Chanel; Prada, LV; Too expensive Can be ugly Fakes on sale through Internet or in holiday resort markets Not always as good quality as the price suggests Some ‘diffusion’ ranges made in 3rd World where workers not paid a fair wage Exclusivity- but also snob value Often an expensive item might be hoarded- because it was so expensive You would feel dreadful if you’d paid lots of money for a Rolex watch and then saw someone wearing a fake- that looked identical Gullible people get into debt trying to copy the celebs in magazines Designer Clothes- for and against

Structuring your argument- from plan to paragraphs • Introduction • Aspect 1- for and against= 2 paragraphs with a link in the middle • Aspect 2- for and against= 2 paragraphs with a link in the middle • Aspect 3- for and against= 2 paragraphs with a link in the middle • Aspect 4- for and against= 2 paragraphs with a link in the middle • Conclusion- what can be learned from these opposing arguments- and where you personally stand and why • Aim for around 800 words

  5. Catch your readers’ attention • You’ve just come out of a very expensive shop carrying a posh carrier bag. In this bag is your designer purchase. It is the same top you saw your favourite celebrity wearing in last week’s edition of ‘Hello’. Five hundred yards along the road you see that person from your class you don’t like wearing what is obviously a knock off copy. Are designer goods really so desirable when they can be copied so easily?
