  1. WELCOME SENIORS!August 31, 2016 DO NOW: In your notebook or piece of paper tell me about your LAST first day at OPHS. (1/2+ page) If you were not here yesterday tell me what you hope this school year will be like.

  2. 8/31/16 • Learning Goal: I will learn how to become a member of a writing community • Learning Objective: I can create 4 truths and 1 lie about myself and have others try to figure out who I am and vice versa to get to know my community.

  3. Classwork • Tell me about yourself. What makes you unique? What do you LOVE about yourself? (4-5 sentences)

  4. CLASS WORK • Activity 1: • Teacher model • Brainstorm a list of interesting facts about yourself. • Brainstorm a list of lies about yourself • On post-it write: 3 truths and 1 lie (scramble) • Try to figure out partner’s truths and lies-Repeat • Report out

  5. My name is Ms. IoanaTatu and this is my 5th year teaching; 3rd year with Oak Park High School. • I graduated from Wayne State University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Spanish. • I was born in Romania and moved to United States during the summer of 1997. I have one younger sister who I consider my best friend. This October I will also become a first time aunt to two identical baby girls. • I love being a teacher and always want to see my students succeed.

  6. My Expectations for all of my students • If you have an attitude, please leave it at the door and pick it back up when you leave. There is no room for every day bad attitudes. Figure out why you’re miserable and fix it. • More than likely, you don’t know me and I don’t know you. Let’s start off on the right foot with an open mind, being respectful, and learning more about each other instead of instant judgements. • I expect you to be on time and to attend class every day. Being consistently late or not coming to class will negatively affect your grade. “If I am late for work, I will be docked pay or lose my job.” Same concept….your education is your paycheck for a successful future. • I expect you to bring certain items with you to class each and every day. I will not provide a pass for you to go and get this items from your locker. • Backpacks should be left in your locker. If you’re having locker issues please get those fixed immediately. • You should always have a binder with paper or notebook that you can tear out as well as something to write with each day. Please don’t think of coming to class with no paper or a pen/pencil. You remembered your phone, right? Well, this is school and paper and pencil are essential to completing your assignments.

  7. My Expectations for my students continued…. • While you are in my class, my total focus and attention are on you and your peers. Do not come and see me during instruction time when you are supposed to be another class to check on a grade, missed worked, you are leaving for the day, etc. I have office hours when you can come and see me. • When you enter this class, I expect you act like a young adult and not a child. Don’t play fight, take other students’ property, blast your music even though you have headphones in, or be loud and out of control. Remember we’re “grown” so let’s act “grown” • At the end of class, remain in your seat until the bell rings. Pick up after yourself and throw garbage away in the trash as you leave. Return any materials borrowed from me during class.

  8. Your Daily Performance • Every assignment that you turn in should be your best work. It should be neat, make sense, legible, and COMPLETE. • Your answers should ALWAYS be in complete sentences! ALWAYS!!! • NEVER write your essays in one huge paragraph; your essays require separate paragraphs. • Please don’t ask me if your work is, “good enough.” I don’t know, is it? Are you proud of your work? Did you follow the directions? If so, then great! • All of my daily PowerPoint presentations will be listed on my weebly. This is where you will go to get your missing assignments. • Itatu.weebly.com

  9. Music and Cell Phones • Music can be listened to before class starts up until the bell rings. As soon as the bell rings, headphones, earbuds, need to be removed from your ears and cellphones put away. DO NOT ASK ME IF YOU CAN LISTEN TO YOUR MUSIC WHILE DOING YOUR WORK; THE ANSWER WILL ALWAYS BE “NO.” If there is a medical reason that you must listen to music in order to get your work done, please come and see me and you can provide evidence from a doctor/social worker that it is needed. • Don’t ever come to my desk with your music blaring in your ear and expect to have a conversation with me. • There is NO cell phone use during class time. I will let you know if at any time you can use your phone. If I see a cell phone out, I will warn everyone that I have seen one. Next time I see it, it will be taken and given to security. • Your cell phone should be put away in your pocket, purse, hoodie, jacket. NOT ON YOUR DESK!

  10. Passes and Bathroom • Take care of any business BEFORE you enter the classroom. This includes bathroom, going to your locker, and whatever else you deem necessary before you come to class. Is this fair? Yes. I have to take care of my needs during this time as well so please use your time wisely. • If you must use the bathroom, you must wear the vest provided and sign out on the log sheet. Asking for a pass to use the bathroom once a week is asking too much. Again, take care of your needs before you enter the classroom. Those that abuse the bathroom privilege will not be given a pass for the entire term. • I will not provide a pass for you to see your counselor, coach, other teacher, friends, etc… All of that can wait for passing time, lunch time or after school. • Passes are for emergency purposes only.

  11. Personal Care • This classroom is NOT a beauty salon! • I don’t want to see you putting on your makeup, brushing your hair, putting deodorant on, etc. Take care of that stuff before you come to class. • Phones should not be used as mirrors either. Remember, the cell phone policy!

  12. I look forward to an AMAZING year with each and every one of you. Let’s make your senior year your best year at OPHS!
