Where It All Began… • It began 5000 years ago • In India, Henna was used for manicures • Nail art history is not so easy to investigate as there are contradicting theories concerning nail art origins • What can be stated conclusively is that nail art history is a process of progressive development that is constantly built up by nail art techniques and styles • Modern nail art trends are fascinating and innovative

Using pigments instead of dyes. Revlon was able to offer women a rich looking opaque nail enamel in a wide variety of shades never before available • Nail art origins are traced from the term mehendi, used synonymously for henna, derived from the Sanskrit mehendika • Much of the modern revival of henna derives from its popularity in India • According to nail art history, manicures is a cosmetic beauty treatment for the fingernails and hands enjoyed by both sexes Where they got their inspiration

  4. 1. Consult with your client about the type of nail art they would like2. Choose a design STEPS TO NAIL ART STEP 1 & 2

  5. STEPS 3 & 4 Apply a base coat to all the nails Paint all of the nails with your base colour

  6. 5. Using a dotting tool, create five white dots in a circle, touching the dots on the edges and leaving the center empty. Repeat four times6. Do all 10 nails before going on to next step STEPS 5 & 6

  7. 7. Using a dotting tool (or a toothpick) apply a yellow dot in the center of each circle8. Apply top coat STEPS 7 & 8

  8. Nail art should be artistic & fun! Consult your client to find out what design they may have in mind and personalize it to their own personal style!
