  1. Living with Leaders (2):Getting A Much Greater Return On Investment,Hebrews 13:17

  2. Hebrews 13:17 Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account. May they do this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for you.

  3. Grace thru Faith Applied in Our Fellowship… …reveals love throughout our community, 13:1-6 …respects leaders in our congregation, 13:7-25 Grace thru Faith… • We learn from leaders who are teachers, 13:7 • We listen to leaders who are shepherds, 13:17 • We love our leaders who are servants, 13:25

  4. We’re to get the most spiritual “bang for the buck’ out of our leadership so that we may grow mature in Messiah, have greater spiritual victories, and bring greater glory to His name! “for this would be unprofitable for you.” By faith we’re to use our time, talent or treasure for a greater spiritual “Return On Investment.” “Profitable” (Lusitelo) = “paid return on your expenses” = useful, advantageous or profitable. So, it ‘pays’ to have faith, but is it unprofitable 4 U?

  5. And so when the scriptures state that it would be “unprofitable” for us to disobey and rebel we can warily think, “I’ll take my chances” or more cynically, “That was written by those in power!” But in so doing we are choosing fear of people over faith in G-d, and disobedience over the blessings that come with faith-obedience to His word. Because of the sinfulness and corruption of humanity, we often say, “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power tends to corrupt absolutely”. And so because of rampant abuse of power, when people see the words “obey” and “submit” there’s often a reaction of “no way!” God’s Word? Ha! History was written by the winners!

  6. Living with Leaders (2):Getting A Much Greater Return On Investment,Hebrews 13:17 Your ROI is impacted by… I. The respect for your leaders II. The responsibility of your leaders III. The responsiveness to your leaders

  7. “Obey” is the word “persuade” or “confident.” It’s obedience produced by confidence that these godly leaders are teaching the word of G-d. So that your obedience is to their accurate teaching of the word. Your ROI is impacted by… I. The respect for your leaders Obey your leaders and submit to them… Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you; and considering the result of their conduct, imitate their faith. Hebrews 13:7 A. Obedience to their instruction It was prophesied of the Messiah that we’d obey Him. And so we are to keep passing the word on to be taught to the next generation. And He taught us to trust in the teaching of His authorized servants. “The scepter shall not depart from Judah…until Shiloh comes and to Him will be the obedience of the peoples” Genesis 49:10 “What is the Messiah's name? His name is Shiloh, for it is written, until Shiloh come.” Talmud, Sanhedrin 98b “Messiah gave some people …as shepherds and teachers to equip God's people for the work of service…” Ephesians 4:11-12 "I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word” John 17:20 The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. 2 Timothy 2:2 My confidence in the Word is seen by My obedience to the Word

  8. Leaders are trusted who have both… The ministry of the Word through the life The ministry of the Word into the life

  9. Produces confidence/ obedience The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. 2 Timothy 2:2

  10. Your ROI is impacted by… I. The respect for your leaders Obey your leaders and submit to them… B. Compliance to their position To “submit” means to accept and yield to their authorized authority in Messiah. The flesh seeks power; G-d delegates His authority Or are you resisting G-d’s authority in your life? “Who is among you that fears the Lord? Let him heed the voice of His servant.” Isaiah 50:10

  11. The 5 areas of delegated authority from G-d: For Unity in the Community 1. Government to citizens, 1 Sam 24:6; Rom 13:1-2; 1 Peter 2:13 2. Employers to employees, Ps 123:2; 1 Peter 2:18; Eph 6:5 3. Congregation elders to congregants, Dt 18:18-19; Jer 7:25, 26; Heb 13:17 4. Husband to wife, Gen 3:16; 1 Cor 11:2-3, Eph 5:22 5. Parents to children, Ex 20:12, Eph 6:1-3 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. "Honor your father and mother" which is the first commandment with a promise. Ephesians 6:1-2 "Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the LORD your God gives you. Exodus 20:12 Urge servants to be subject to their own masters. Titus 2:9 “…be subject to the elders” “Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor” 1 Peter 5:5; 1 Timothy 5:17 Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Colossians 3:18 Every person is to be subject to the governing authorities. Romans 13:1

  12. Dictatorial Engaged Authority What happens if there are leaders (parents, elders, etc) who have not been delegated the properauthority or who do not understand their properresponsibility? Leadership responses Frustrated Apathetic Responsibility

  13. Your ROI is impacted by… II. The responsibility of your leaders for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account A. They have to account for the flock We will have to give an account for all areas of our stewardship. "each man's work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man's work.“ 1 Corinthians 3:13 So then each one of us will give an account of himself to God. Romans 14:12

  14. Your ROI is impacted by… II. The responsibility of your leaders for they keep watch over your souls as those who will give an account I’m called to watch for my soul, my home & my society. And I’ll give an account for each area of my life. B They have to care for the flock But as I “watch over” my various responsibilities, I am investing my time, talent and treasure –I am blessed! I will most gladly spend and be spent for your souls. 2 Corinthians 12:15 “The Lord Yeshua said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'" Acts 20:35 The smart investor looks for a good money manager. Invest in a faith community that will care about you.

  15. When it states that “this would be unprofitable for you” It’s spiritually “unprofitable for you” but not for the godly but grieved leader, who will be blessed & rewarded for ‘pain and suffering’! Your ROI is impacted by… III. The responsiveness to your leaders May they do this with joy and not with grief I beg you to trust in Yeshua and be saved! B. The worry can be an oy! A. The work can be with joy always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all. Philippians 1:4 "As for you, son of man, groan with breaking heart and bitter grief, groan in their sight.” Ezekiel 21:6 2 Cor 4:16-18

  16. Are you getting the most ROI for now and for eternity? Growth Is your attitude ready to obey all biblical instructions & yield to G-d’s authorized authority? Are you a committed member of a community whose leaders care about your spiritual growth? Are you easily instructed, corrected and affirmed, or are you easily offended when corrected? Your blest response to the instruction gives the best return on your investment Let’s pray.
