  3. IRIS 9000

  4. Alternative Techniques(Electro-magnetic) • Eddy Current (EC) Non-Ferrous • Magnetic Flux Leakage Ferrous • Remote Field EC Ferrous • Near Field EC Ferrous • ‘Dinsearch’ Ferrous • ADVANTAGES • Speed • Crack detection capabilities

  5. 1975 - Shell R&D Co. research new method to inspect air-cooled tubes. 1978 - First IRIS field trials in Shell Deer Park by J.J.Conradi. BIX America buys world rights to IRIS for 5 years. In the UK, BIX owned MatEval starts work on new IRIS unit. 1980 - BIX starts field trials with Shell R&D unit - Limited success. 1983 - BIX America sold and becomes Pan American Inspection. Build first non-Shell IRIS in US - Market for IRIS service $300K 1985 - Mark Hawkins leaves and forms Iris Inspection Services, Inc. Designs/builds IRIS 2 followed by IRIS 2000,3000,4000 & 9000 1997 - Develop IRIS-Vision coloured tubesheet software. 1999 - Develop IRIS C-scan software. 2000 - IRIS as an inspection service estimated at $5M in US alone. History of IRIS Technology

  6. IRIS 9000 Printer Water filter/ pressure regulator Probe Assemblies Probe encoder/ motor drive (optional) Calibration test tube Basic IRIS System

  7. IRIS Probe Design

  8. Standard Probe Assemblies • 1/2” - 12.2mm to 17.2mm I.D • 1” - 17.2mm to 25.4mm I.D. • 2” - 25.4mm to 57mm I.D.

  9. Special Probe Assemblies • 8.6mm Probe - 8.6mm to 12.2mm I.D. • 2” Flexible Centring Device - 45 deg bends • 3.5” Probe - 57mm to 88.9mm I.D.

  10. IRIS 9000

  11. IRIS 9000 • ADVANTAGES • Test any material • Simple operation • Automatic calibration • Only one probe necessary • Only one test tube required • Measures individual corrosion pits • High degree of measurement accuracy (0.05mm) • Tests 100% of tubes • Not PC-based (excl. IRIS-Vision & C-scan software) • Instant on-site reporting

  12. IRIS Inspection • DISADVANTAGES • Relatively slow inspection speed • Cannot detect cracks • Tube cleanliness

  13. IRIS Inspection Services Inc. • NDT Service Company (IRIS only) • Direct Feedback • Customers • Technicians • IRIS Equipment Manufacturers • R&D Commitment • 5th Generation Digital IRIS

  14. Reporting Methods • IRIS 9000 print-outs • IRIS-Vision coloured tubesheet software (optional) • C-Scan software (optional)

  15. IRIS 9000 • Printer hook-up

  16. IRIS-Vision Software- Coloured Tubesheet Diagram - • PC in office

  17. C-Scan Software • On-site Laptop PC • (Optional)
