Symbolism • A form of expression in which the world of appearances is violently rearranged by artists who seek a different and more truthful version of reality

Imagism • Imagism came out of symbolism with the help of Americans Ezra Pound, and T.S. Eliot • They founded Imagism which flourished from 1912-1917 • Believed that images alone could carry a poem’s message. • Rid poems of the prettiness, sentimentality, and artificiality • Free verse
