Consideration of Roles in the School • Focus on Learning a major priority in the College • Need to promote Personal Development • Develop the Vocational Educational side of the College • Provide for our statutory obligations in Assessment for Learning • Support staff in roles in delivering the Revised Curriculum • Create clear lines of communication • Provide ownership of changes in the context of legislative requirements

  5. Practical Steps • Focus on Learning • Mr Bennett • School Leader with responsibility for Geography, Careers, work and employment. This is a very large brief. • Excellent teacher, involved in staff development. Leads Research and Development Group. • Focus on Learning – Thinking Skills, dissemination of good practice. Keep teaching for learning at the forefront of the College • Responsibility for in house staff development • Retain overview for Careers

Draft Remit for Teaching for Learning Team • To bring structure and coherence to the curriculum in terms of Learning • To develop student’s generic capability as learners and teachers’ skills in the classroom. • To support teachers working together, help them reflect on practice and develop understanding of the principles of teaching thinking skills and personal capabilities. • To embed thinking skills and personal capabilities across the curriculum and expertise across the curriculum. • To promote cross-subject collaborative work • To create conditions for staff to think and learn • To advise SLT on appropriate staff development • *Focus on planning lessons • *Classroom observation • *Being coached • *Gain access to theoretical ideas which can help staff understand and develop practice • * Build up a profile of interest and expertise in Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities

  7. Personal Development • Mrs Watts • Vocational Education, Faculty Head, Co-ordinator for Pastoral Care and Drugs Education involves responsibility for PSHE, counselling, Care Team • Again a very large brief which needs to be unbundled. • Co-ordinator for Personal Development

Draft Remit for Personal Development • To bring structure and coherence to the curriculum in terms of the development of our students as individuals • Responsible for the implementation of the Revised Curriculum in terms of: • Personal understanding • Mutual understanding • Personal health • Moral character • Spiritual awareness • The above includes Child Protection • Drugs Education, liaison with outside agencies, Health Education, Care Team, Support Team • The team will have responsibility for Pastoral Care, Counselling and Drugs Education in the College, Inclusion and related issues • There will be a responsibility to Quality Assure our provision in the above • It will also be responsible for providing support for our students through such agencies as Love for Life, Tree of Knowledge • The team will provide advice on appropriate Staff Development to SLT

Vocational Education • Careers Officer • Responsible for policy and teaching programmes throughout the college • Career visits • Careers interviews • Shared responsibility for work experience • Monitoring, evaluation and review of provision • Links with feeder schools and local communities • Vocational Education Officer • Business enterprise • Responsibility for Learning for Life and Work throughout the College • Shared responsibility for work experience • Links with external agencies such as NRC • Monitoring, evaluation and review of vocational provision and related Health and Safety issues

  10. Assessment for Learning • Assessment and Reporting • Responsibility for Reporting • Introduction of Levels of progression. Level descriptors, legal requirements, skills acquisition and development • Monitoring of homework • Mentoring and tracking of student progress • Monitoring and evaluation of Assessment for learning throughout the College

  11. Key Stage 3 Co-ordinators • We have 3 in the areas of Science, Maths and English. They also have a responsibility for coursework. • Changing circumstances re KS3 tests and coursework • I have spoken to all 3 in terms of re-negotiating their management responsibilities to include monitoring and evaluation of Communication, Use of Maths and ICT across the College. This is legally required. It involves no extra cost to the College.

Draft Remit for Assessment for Learning Team • To bring structure and coherence to the curriculum in terms of Assessment for Learning • Responsibility for the implementation of AfL across the curriculum • Responsibility for Reporting • Monitoring of Homework • Mentoring and tracking of student progress • Quality assurance of AfL throughout the College • Advise SLT on Staff Development in AfL

Draft Remit for Employability Team • To bring structure and coherence to the curriculum in terms of employability, economic awareness and education for sustainable development • Responsibility for the implementation of the Revised Curriculum in terms of Learning for Life and Work • Responsibility for Careers Education throughout the College • Responsibility for links with outside agencies • Responsibility for work experience • Responsibility for Quality Assuring the above provision

Draft Remit for ICT Strategy Team • To ensure systemic embedding of ICT as an enabling technology in policy and practice throughout the curriculum. • To support staff in making effective and innovative use of technologies to enable learning • To provide guidance for SLT on appropriate staff development, requisitioning of hardware and software • To promote a better understanding of the pedagogy of ICT in the college • To review progress in ICT against the emPowering schools strategy milestones • To adopt and apply the BECTA Self Review Framework • To seek ICT Mark status for the College • To ensure that sufficient notice is taken of the prior learning os students with ICT • To work with the AfL team in relation to the use of ICT in assessment, recording and reporting and with the respective co-ordinators for Communication, Using Maths and ICT to effect change as envisaged in ETSD • To develop the College website and on-line learning programmes • To seek through ICT to extend the partnership between the home, community and the College

  22. Bursary? • In order to provide for Staff Development I would suggest a bursary for which staff may apply. • This would be on a one/two year basis. • It will be to further learning in the College: Possible Subject Areas – these are not definitive Virtual Learning Consultative Learning Use of Classroom Assistants After school learning Gifted and Talented • This should allow for flexibility and creativity • Collaboration between 2 members of staff could be a possibility

  23. What does it involve? • Making a case to the Board of Governors • Two presentations per year to the Board • What is being done? • Why? • Where will it be taken? • Presentations to whole staff and SLT
