  4. Why • The trails made it easier for people to settle out west.

  5. Mail • People used them a lot to carry mail to the west side of the country.

  6. War • During the Civil War the army moved there soldiers from bases to patrol along the trails.

  7. When • The stage line operated till 1869 until the First Continental Rail Road was created.
