His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Emir of Qatar and founder of Qatar Foundation, committed immense resources to bring knowledge to the people of Qatar and the region, thereby helping to build a skilled human capital base.   2. EDUCATION • At the heart of Education City are six universities, they are the branch campuses of prestigious international institutions that are delivering some of their most renowned programs. The availability of these world-class programs inspires young learners to strive for higher academic achievement. • Our partners combine to form a collegiate environment where students, faculty, staff, and community members come together, in an innovatively built campus, in the joint pursuit of learning. • The voyage of discovery that is the Education City student experience, transforms lives.   3. SCIENCE AND RESEARCH • The enrichment of human capital that is necessary for Qatar's transformation depends to a large extent upon fostering a research culture. This is an environment that encourages the pursuit of new knowledge, conducts scientific research and develops new technologies. • The development of this research environment is being led by Qatar Foundation's Research Division and its partners, who are working hand in hand to build Qatar's innovation and technology capacity, and are uncovering solutions to national challenges in health, climatechange, clean energy and other fields. • Each of the Education City universities has a research element, and the SIDRA Medical and Research Center will be a cutting-edge research facility, as well as a clinical care provider and a medical training institution.

Faculty Of Islamic Studies • The Qatar Faculty Of Islamic Studies(QFIS) is an international centre for Islamic thinking and dialogue, committed to enhancing research intoIislamic Culture. • QFIS began its two year GeneralDiplomain Islamic Studies in 2007. This was followed in February 2008 by an MA in Contemporary Fiqh and an MA in Public Policy in Islam

QATAR NATIONAL RESEARCH FUND • Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF) was created under Qatar Foundation to guide the creation of the country's research programs, which will be a catalyst for a new knowledge-based economy. • Targeted research will enhance the education and well-being of citizens, as well as the skills level of the workforce. Some of the research projects will find their way to the stage of commercialization, helping diversify the country's economy. • QNRF will advance knowledge and education by supporting original, competitively selection research in the sciences, arts and humanities. • QNRF administers financial support to researchers at all levels, from students to professionals, in the private, public and academic sectors. Funding is awarded through a competitive process to original projects in engineering and technology, physical and life sciences, medicine, humanities, social sciences and the arts.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT • Theeducationandscientific researchelements of Qatar Foundation's mission are long-term investments that will grow to fruition over years and generations. • Thecommunity developmentpart of the organization's mission aims to enhance lives by identifying and meeting immediate needs and opportunities, and by addressing factors that impede human development. • Initiatives may be targeted at social groups that require help in coping with their circumstances, as with theSocial Development Centerand theQatarDiabetesAssociation. • Often they have very broad appeal. For example, Al Shaqabengenders pride in Qatari's special relationship with the horse, providing a social anchor during a time of rapid social change. TheDoha International Institute for Family Studies and Developmentis a research facility based on a strong belief that the family is the natural and fundamental unit of society.

SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT CENTER • The Social Development Center (SDC) supports, develops and invests in human resources through a set of programs and services that help Qatari families achieve self-reliance. Training programs offer individuals the opportunity to acquire managerial, financial, technical and marketing skills.

  9. THE DOHA DEBATES • The Doha Debates are monthly political debate programmes which address pressing regional issues. They are filmed at Qatar Foundation headquarters and broadcast on BBC World News television. • The format of the programmer allows both sides of anargument to be given an equal voice, providing a forum where preconceptions and stereotypes can be challenged openly. • At the Doha Debates, four speakers - two on each side - debate a controversial statement in front of participating audience. • Four speakers - two on each side - debate a controversial statement. QATAR DIABETES ASSOCIATION • Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA) is at the forefront of efforts in Qatar and the Middle East to promote the prevention, care and management of diabetes. • The Association's work has increased in importance since its establishment in 1995 due to the dramatic increase in the incidence of diabetes in Qatar and worldwide. • In addition to enhancing and extending the lives of people with diabetes, QDA aims to reduce the economic burden upon healthcare systems. • QDA supports diabetics and their families in leading normal and productive lives by raising public awareness of the causes of the condition and by communicating how it can be managed through regulation of blood sugar levels in various ways. • It works closely with health and sports authorities to encourage members of the community to exercise regularly and eat healthily. Particular attention is devoted to women as family health educators.

  11. QATARDEBATE • QatarDebate was established in September 2007 as a national debating organization for Qatar. It has the aim of developing, supporting and raising the standard of open discussion and debate among students in Qatar and across the Middle East. • QatarDebate plans to establish a Qatar-wide debate league, to run national championships for schools and universities. • It has run debating workshops at over 20 different educational institutions in Qatar in which over 800 students and faculty have participated. • It plans to establish a Qatar-wide debate league, to run national championships for schools and universities, and to select and train a Qatar student debating team to participate in the 2008 World Schools' Debating Championships in Washington DC. • Its activities are aimed at building a sustainable culture of student debating, and it is hoping to bring to Qatar the 2010 World Schools' Debating Championships, an international competition for high school debaters.

  12. AL SHAQAB • Al Shaqab is the region's premier equine education resource center. Among its many equestrian amenities are a riding academy, an endurance training complex and a center for breeding and showing world-class Arabian horses. • An exceptional new facility, due to open within the Education City complex with a proposed opening in 2011, will cover 800,000 square meters and provide stabling for more than 400 horses. State-of-the-art facilities include multiple performance arenas designed for international show jumping and dressage competitions, the region's most advanced veterinary hospital, a breeding center, a training track, high-speed and underwater treadmills for endurance conditioning and a full-service riding academy and equestrian club.

DOHA INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR FAMILY STUDIES AND DEVELOPMENT • The Doha International Institute for Family Studies and Development (DIFSD) conducts research and promotes scholarship on the legal, sociological, and scientific basis of the natural family as the fundamental unit of society. • Its initiatives seek to implement the Doha Declaration, an internationally recognized reaffirmation of Article 16 (3) of the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which reads: "The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State." • The Institute contributes to Qatar Foundation's community development mission through its policies and programs that build on the concept that a framework of strong, stable families facilitates dialogue and harmony at all social levels.

AL JAZEERA CHILDREN'S CHANNEL • Al-Jazeera Children's Channel (JCC) is a pan-Arabic 'edutainment' channel that targets Arab children between the ages of seven and 15 years, encouraging learning and discovery while teaching young audiences about different environments and cultures. More than 40 percent of broadcast programs are its own productions, with almost half of its programming new material. JCC delivers relevant content that resonates with the needs of its audience's daily life and is consistent with their culture.

  15. BARAEM TV • Baraem TV is the first Arabic television channel devoted to pre-school children between the ages of three and six years old. The channel offers an impressive range of educational programs specifically tailored for pre-school children.Through joyful, simple and enlightening content, Baraem develops the minds of its young audiences, while supporting mothers and other caregivers throughout the day. The channel accompanies kids through their formative years of learning, and offers rich content that helps them develop their social, cognitive and intuitive skills. • Baraem TV is the first Arabic television channel devoted to pre-school children between the ages of three and six years old. The channel offers an impressive range of educational programs specifically tailored for pre-school children. • Baraem TV programming is carefully designed to accompany young viewers and their mothers during their daily routines. A typical Baraem day starts with an active tone celebrating the sun rise; the level of mental and physical actions increases mid-morning to fit the children's energy boost; the early afternoon brings rich and diverse educational content that introduces viewers to Arabic letters, numbers, colors, and shapes; and the rhythm slows down as bed time approaches to help mothers prepare their youngsters to sleep.

  16. QATAR MICE DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE • Qatar MICE Development Institute (QMDI) is a joint venture partnership between Qatar Foundation and Singex Global. The MICE industry (Meetings, Incentive Travel, Conventions and Exhibitions) has been identified as an important growth area within Qatar. • QMDI specializes in conference, exhibition and event management, offering clients and partners a complete package from conception to execution. QMDI aims to raise industry standards in Qatar by introducing a regulatory framework, setting licensing initiatives and establishing quality controls. • Qatar MICE Development Institute which opened at the beginning of 2008. • Qatar's growing role in international politics, education, industry, trade, finance, culture and sporting fixtures places it firmly on the events map. QMDI's network gives it access to a global infrastructure with international expertise in production, sales, marketing and research.

  17. QATAR SOLAR TECHNOLOGIES (QSTec) • Qatar Solar Technologies (QSTec) was launched in 2010 and will be the first polysilicon production facility in the Middle East. QSTec is a joint venture between Qatar Foundation (70%), SolarWorld AG (29%) and the Qatar Development Bank (1%) and will produce 3,600 tons per year of polysilicon for export to the world solar energy markets. QSTec is strategically located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia in Qatar's Ras Laffan Industrial City. Our convenient location enables us to rapidly service the growing solar markets of Asia, Europe and the Middle East and Qatar's advanced infrastructure means the markets of the USA and Australia are within easy reach. • The polysilicon QSTec produces is transformed into products that enable solar power and reduce CO2 emissions. • Quality, efficiency, protection of the environment and the use of modern technology are extremely important to QSTec and our customers. QSTec will be using the latest Siemens process technology from Centrotherm Photovoltaics. This is a closed loop system where gases are recycled for use again rather than being vented into the atmosphere making it more environmentally friendly and efficient whilst producing the high quality polysilicon demanded by our customers.
