  1. St. Johns School Council What do we do?

  2. What we do! • We as individuals represent our class in school council meetings. • We are elected at the start of every year and go to meetings as the voice of our class. • Meetings are held every two weeks with the Head teacher Mrs. Taylor. • During Tutor time we ask our classmates what they would like us to raise at the meeting. We act as a voice and give over our ideas to Mrs. Taylor. • Over the next few slides we will show you some of the stuff we have managed to achieve this year.

  3. Hair • The idea of being allowed to wear our hair down came from some year 8 students. They wrote a long list of reasons as to why they should be allowed to wear their hair down and it was brought to a school council meeting. • The list was brought to the teachers and it was passed with some rules. • These rules are: • You must put your hair up for science experiments, all art and D.T lessons and all P.E lessons.

  4. Litter • When Mrs. Taylor came in January the litter situation was a real problem. • At the first school council meeting it was decided that one last chance was to be given to the pupils to sort out the problem themselves. • The litter problem got slightly better but it wasn’t good enough. So school council came up with the Pot policy. • The rules of this policy are that you can still have what ever you want for a snack at break, but if it’s in a wrapper it needs to be put in a pot/tub. • This policy is working quite well so far.

  5. Year Councils • Mrs Taylor brought to her first meeting the idea of having more pupils involved in the decision – making of the school. • She came up with the idea of year councils. • We all thought it was a great idea and now each year has a year council where they address problems affecting their own year.

  6. Our Acheivements • In the two terms we have had with Mrs Taylor we feel we have made great steps towards improving the effectiveness of our school council and listening to the ideas of pupils in our school. • We have won the pot policy, and the litter problem has improved immensely. • Girls and boys who now have the choice to wear their hair down appreciate this, and have listened to the rules. • Overall, we feel that in the last two terms, we have achieved quite a lot, and we are very happy with our head teacher, and the way we as a school council are working with her.

  7. We are St john’s finest few, We represent our classes too. School council is our name. Representing forms is our game. Sorting out issues for you, Also helps pupils have their input too.
