The Europeana Cloud project aims to revolutionize metadata aggregation by creating a sustainable and cost-effective infrastructure for enriching and sharing digital library collections. With the collaboration of 35 partners, the project focuses on building a technical framework, ingesting metadata and content, defining principles of engagement, and investigating efficiencies. The project also aims to develop end-user services for researchers, particularly in the humanities and social sciences, to access enriched data through annotation, SPARQL, and APIs.

Current situation for metadata aggregation Europeana Aggregator Aggregator
The relationship is not reciprocal, it is costly and unsustainable Europeana Aggregator Aggregator
Europeana Cloud project tries to rethink this situation Europeana The European Library Polish Digital Libraries Federation
Sub-aggregations for members ? Ease of sharing? Enriched data potential? Europeana Polish Digital Libraries Federation The European Library Cost reduction? Shared storage?
Who are the partners? 3 aggregators Europeana 12 strategic / technical partners The European Library Polish Digital Libraries Federation 20 content providers
What will they be doing? Build a technical infrastructure Ingest metadata (2.4 M items) and content (5 M items) Europeana Design a legal framework The European Library Polish Digital Libraries Federation Define the principles of engagement Investigating possible efficiencies Establishing Long term consensus
We will also investigate how we can build end-user services on top of this infrastructure Researchers Content & Data In particular for researchers in humanities and social sciences
