  3. Victorian times • he lived at the time of British industrialization, at time when Britain became a World Empire • his books describe negative sides of British society of 19thcentury • he applied experience from his childhood and his lifelong theme become the tragic fate of poor children

  4. Early life • he came from a large poor family • had to work very early because of his father’s debts • supported his family • his bad experience influenced him Dickens's home 1817–1822 Obr. 2

  5. Working experience • worked as an office boy • it helped him to start writing • worked as a reporter at the law courts of London • reported for major London newspapers • published his work in magazines
