  1. Egg Osmosis Experiment By Jennifer Lopez 8-73

  2. Purpose • To observe osmosis in a cell • 1) Place eggs in vinegar, to remove shell • 2) Weight of egg, measured using a balance

  3. Purpose (cont.) • 3) Size of egg, measured using measuring tape • 4) 1 egg in water, 1 egg in corn syrup • Weigh and measure eggs again.

  4. Hypothesis- Water • Egg will be heavier in weight • Size of egg- a tiny bit bigger • Egg will look a bit fatter

  5. Hypothesis- Corn Syrup • Egg’s weight will be heavier • Size of egg -gets bigger • Egg will look the same

  6. Materials • Eggs • Beakers • Balance • String • Measuring tape • Vinegar • Corn syrup • Water

  7. Observations • 1) Vinegar- 24 hours • - squishy, bouncy • - top of beaker: foamy • 2) Corn Syrup- 24 hours • -looks:-dented • -deflated • 3) Water- 24 hours • - looks: fatter

  8. Conclusion • 1) Corn Syrup Egg • - smaller • -higher water concentration • - water moved higher concentration (egg) • - to lower concentration (corn syrup)

  9. Conclusion (cont.) • 2) Water Egg • - larger • - water when in egg • - lower concentration of water • -moved higher concentration (water) • -to lower concentration (egg)

  10. Conclusion- Hypothesis • Corn syrup egg • Wrong! (size, weight looks) • Said to be bigger, but got smaller • Looked – smaller • Weighed- lighter • Size- smaller • Egg & corn syrup - even in & out • Water went in corn syrup egg

  11. Conclusion- Hypothesis • Water egg • Right! (size, weight, looks) • Size- Said to get bigger • Weight- Said to weigh heavier • Looks- Said to look fatter • Why?- Water (higher concentration) moved into egg (lower concentration)
