  2. DO NOW In your composition notebook, write a note to a friend explaining what you learned in our previous lesson about pronouns. Your note must be in paragraph form and include examples. 

  3. Subject and Object Pronouns REMEMBER: a pronoun replaces a noun. Nouns can function as both subjects and direct objects. Depending on whether the noun is a subject or a direct object, the pronoun that replaces it can be a subject or an object pronoun. (See posters.)

  4. If a pronoun replaces a subject, it is called a subject pronoun. If a pronoun replaces a direct object, it is called an object pronoun. • What is the subject pronoun? • What is the object pronoun? Paul walked Meeko on the boardwalk; he fed him treats along the way.

  5. Paul walked Meeko on the boardwalk; he fed him treats along the way. Subject – Paul Direct Object - Meeko Subject Pronoun – “he” is the subject pronoun because it is replacing “Paul” Object Pronoun – “him” is the object pronoun because it is replacing Meeko

  6. Another Example When Tyrone tried to catch the ball, he let it fall through his fingers. Subject – Tyrone Direct Object - ball Subject Pronoun – “he” is the subject pronoun because it is replacing “Tyrone” Object Pronoun – “it” is the object pronoun because it is replacing “ball”

  7. Another Example Will you join us after school today? Subject – you Direct Object - us

  8. Another Example Mrs. Chip, Mrs. Basmajian, Mrs. Maher, Mr. Pilato, and I visited the safari at Great Adventure this past summer. We visited it at Great Adventure this past summer.
