Business Drivers • Used by business across all industries • Increases IT efficiency – pools resources over a network • Increases business agility. • Allowed multiple users to share resources. • Compare to a site like overstock.com using UPS & FedEx instead of owning their own fleet of trucks and planes. Availability • It's ready now. • Key providers like Google & Amazon offer cloud computing services to the public. • Business are able to buy industry-specific models of cloud computing resources. • Risks: • Companies don't own the physical servers that store their data and applications. • Potential for data loss & down time. • Some providers provide “private clouds” in a company's data center, eliminating some of the risk.   5. Technologies it may replace • Client based software: • Microsoft Office, Outlook, Inventory & Invoicing systems. • Data Storage devices: • Thumb drives, external hard drives, file servers. • Why carry a physical device around with you when you can just store it online?

  7. Threats to other industries • Could be a threat to software providers • Why pay for MS Office ($150) when you can use Google Apps for free (legally). • Movie Rental Stores • Blockbuster, TLA Video, Tristian Video

Will it be Successful? ` • YES • Currently embraced by large firms, not just trend-setters. • Cloud Computing projected to be a $150 billion industry by 2014. • Firms implementing cloud computing have seen storage costs fall by 20% and networking costs fall by 50%.
