  4. Cornerstones • We are the AVID team (wootwoot!). • Cornerstone classes for the remainder of the team will cover character education, reading and math skills, and study hall. • Wednesdays each week are set aside for reassessment. This is an important part of student success!

  5. Language Arts • Three texts stay in the classroom: • Elements of Language, Elements of Literature andWordly Wise • Book Quizzes: • 1 book each quarter • Students must choose books from the 7th grade recommended reading list • Please use the public library as much as possible 

  6. Social Studies • Text: World History (stays in class) • Current Events • Weekly—due EVERY Monday • Expectations • Essays • Cornell Notes • Big Ideas for 7th Grade Social Studies: • Pre-historic man through the Middle Ages for the continents of Asia, Africa and Europe

  7. Math • Pre-Algebra is using Big Ideas Math (red book) plus an accompanying workbook • Algebra IA is using Holt McDougall’s Algebra I • Online Textbook Resources • Expect homework almost daily • After-school help is available. Students should check my calendar weekly to see which days they should come. “Yes, they DO have to show their work!!!” 

Science • Science text is Life Science (textbook, CD-Rom available upon request, online-www.glencoe.com/ose) • Big ideas for 7th grade science: • Invertebrates /Cells—1st semester • Vertebrates-human body systems 2nd semester • human sexuality (May) • Current events (in class)-Earthweek.com • Labs/dissections • Science Notebook
