  3. Precipitation Water, in solid or liquid form, that falls from the air to the Earth.

  4. Rain The most common form of precipitation, is liquid water that falls from the clouds to Earth’s surface.

  5. Snow Snow forms when temperatures are so cold that water vapor changes directly to a solid.

  6. Sleet Also called freezing rain, forms when rain falls through a layer of freezing air.

  7. Hail Solid precipitation that fall as balls or lumps of ice.

  8. Measuring Precipitation Rain gauge - an instrument used to measure the amount of rainfall.
