With a little planning and the right tools, any student can prepare fabulous meals for themselves. I believe most of the cooking in dormitories these days is done using a microwave oven. So here are a few tips for students that can enhance their ability to eat on the cheap. There is more to a student's life than Raman noodles, popcorn and potato chips. Choosing the right pan As we just saw, baking can be accomplished in the dormitory. The right cake pan should be shallow to allow the center of the cake to cook and not come out mushy. Check out specially engineered pans for baking in the microwave. The cake will be flatter than normal, but will have a better flavor. Another pan you should have is a big pot. With a big pot you can make more for those days when you just don't have time. Even small batches can be cooked in a big pot. A big pot can also double as a mixing bowl.
