  3. JHS Power Hour Program Description • Students will receive a pass from the teacher that assigns Academic Tutoring, but students are not required to have a pass in order to participate. You may attend any tutoring session for extra help unless other wise specified by the teacher. Departments are grouped for Academic Tutoring and Lunch. • ****Physical Education teachers will be located in the gym/ annex gym, and on the track for intramurals each day.

  4. JHS Power Hour Program Description “A” Shift: • Lunch 11:45-12:15 • Academic Tutoring 12:15-12:45 • Math • Social Studies • CTE • Exceptional Children “B” Shift: • Lunch 12:15-12:45 • Academic Tutoring 11:45-12:15 • English • Science • Fine Arts • Foreign Language

  5. DO YOU HAVE A PLAN? • Begin Planning your Power hour for Monday. • Once finalized, the matrix will be posted on the school website and emailed to you in your student email. Look for it this weekend. Teachers will have a copy for you to refer to as well. • Decide if you are buying lunch or bringing lunch. • Don’t sit in the cafeteria for the whole hour! • Ask questions if you are unsure.

WHERE CAN/CAN’T I EAT MY LUNCH? • CAN: Cafeteria, outside picnic tables between café and building 1, teacher’s classrooms during tutoring/Clubs, or media center. • Seniors only – Senior Fountain area, Senior lunch patio • CAN’T: Hallways, gym, weight room, and anywhere else NOT on the CAN list.

WHERE CAN /CAN’T I SOCIALIZE? • You can sit and socialize in the Cafeteria OR designated lunch zones. • You can sit in the media center and participate in playing board games or work quietly in study rooms • You can’t stop in the hallways. (You MUST be moving towards a destination.) • You can’t sit in the gym or weight room; you MUST be an active participant to be in these locations. No spectators!

  8. WHAT IS COMPLETELY OFF-LIMITS? • Auditorium • Locker Rooms • Rooms with no teacher • Outside (except approved Lunch Zones)

  9. WHAT CAN GET POWER HOUR TAKEN AWAY? • Not following the Power Hour Expectations • Trash being left around. Put your trash in a trash can. • Sitting/crowding in the cafeteria for the whole hour.

  10. WHAT IS REQUIRED FOR ME TO ATTEND tutoring? • Teachers may require you to attend tutoring. They will let you know. • If your grade drops to a level that your teacher feels needs improvement, you MUST attend tutoring with your assigned teacher every day they offer tutoring until your grade is brought up to an acceptable level.

  11. CAN I GET MY LUNCH, THEN GO, OR DO I WAIT FOR THE BELL? • you must plan ahead. Once the bell rings, you will not be permitted to leave your location. You will not have time to stand in line in the cafeteria and then transition to your session. • Example #1 - if you have required tutoring or club during session A, plan on eating during session B. • Example #2 - If you want to participate in intramurals during session b then you need to eat lunch during session A.

  12. WHERE IS MY TEACHER? • Don’t try to visit a teacher unless they have a SCHEDULED Club or Tutoring. • Your 3rd block teacher may have to leave quickly at the end of the block to get to their duty station. You CAN Not hang out after class in 3rd block. • Check your teacher’s door/Classroom for a schedule of when their Club meetings and Tutoring times are.

  13. DO TEACHERS TAKE ATTENDANCE? • Yes. Teachers will be taking attendance for clubs, tutoring, intramurals, and in the weight room. You will be required to sign in. • If you don’t want to lose your privilege - don’t skip!

  14. HOW DOES LUNCH DETENTION WORK? • Lunch detention can be assigned by a teacher or administrator. • If you are notified that you have Teacher assigned lunch detention, you are Expected to report to their classroom during the assigned session. Teacher assigned detention is assigned for 30 minutes. • If you have been assigned lunch detention by administration, you are required to report immediately to the auditorium at the beginning of Power Hour. You will stay the whole hour. • You will be assigned a specific seat in the auditorium and may not talk during lunch detention (silent lunch), or you will receive more days. • Failure to attend or breaking the rules will result in ISS.

  15. CAN I GO TO THE GYM, TRACK, OR WEIGHT ROOM? • Gym: Teachers will post a schedule of when groups will be playing. Participants only, no spectators! • Track: Walking Club sponsor will decide where to walk. No one should be at the track without an adult. Max (100) students • Weight Room: First (35) students each session. • You must exit after (30) minutes. • NO LOCKER ROOM ACCESS FOR ANY REASON. • **Numbers are subject to change

  16. Early Release Students Early Release students – If you have required tutoring, you must attend and then may leave campus at the conclusion of the session. You may stay to attend club meetings but must comply with Power Hour Rules. You will be issued an early release pass that will allow you to exit campus. Staff members will be checking for this pass as you move to the parking lot area. Student ID’s and passes must be visible at all times. All seniors with Early Release must have a permission form on file within the first ten days of the semester with the signature of their parent/guardian regardless. **Passes will not be issued if this paperwork has not been submitted to the guidance office.

  17. Coastal Carolina CC students Late Arrival/Early Release - Students who attend classes at Coastal Carolina Community College will be issued a pass. You may be asked to present this upon arrival to JHS campus and/or departure from JHS campus. All student with Coastal Classes must have a permission form on file within the first ten days of the semester with the signature of their parent/guardian. **Passes will not be issued if this paperwork has not been submitted to the guidance office.

  18. POWER HOUR IS A PRIVILEGE.MAKE IT GREAT! PROVE THAT YOU CAN : • Be trusted with the freedom of choice. • Treat your campus with respect. • Use your time to maximize your education. • Follow procedures similar to a college campus.
