  2. 04-25Right to Know • General • The purpose of this guideline is to insure that the Brunswick Fire Company No. 1 provides a safe and aware work place for it’s personnel and the general public.

  3. 04-25Right to Know • General • The Brunswick Fire Company No. 1 must also post MSDS information in accordance with OSHA Hazard Communications Standard (HCS) 29 CFR 126.59.

  4. 04-25Right to Know • General • Each Firefighter, Fire Police Officer and support group member shall be informed of the substance of the HSC report and the location of the MSDS. • This location shall be readily accessible and will contain properties, chemical composite, safety and handling rules of all hazardous materials on the premise.

  5. 04-25Right to Know • List of Hazardous Materials • The Brunswick Fire Company No. 1 shall maintain a list of all hazardous materials used within and around the Fire Station. • The list shall be updated as necessary.

  6. 04-25Right to Know • List of Hazardous Materials • Deliveries of new materials shall require an immediate MSDS update. • A current list of hazardous materials is maintained in the Right-to-Know binder located on the entrance wall in the Communications Room of the Brunswick Fire Company No. 1 station, 566 Hoosick Road, Troy, NY 12180.

  7. 04-25Right to Know • Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) • A MSDS sheet consists of at least one fully completed OSHA form #174 or equivalent. • These information sheets shall be readily available upon request.

  8. 04-25Right to Know • Training • Each person who works with or is potentially exposed to hazardous materials shall receive initial training on the Hazardous Communications Standard and the safe use of those materials.

  9. 04-25Right to Know • Training • A summary of the standard and this written program. • Hazardous chemicals properties including, but not limited to; visual appearance, odor, and the methods used to detect the presence or release of a chemical.

  10. 04-25Right to Know • Training • Physical and health hazards associated with the potential exposure to work place chemicals. • Procedures to protect against hazards. Examples are proper personal protective equipment (PPE), work place practices and emergency procedures.

  11. 04-25Right to Know • Training • Hazardous chemical spill and leak procedures. • Where MSDS are located, how to understand their content, and how members may obtain and use appropriate hazardous information.

  12. 04-25Right to Know • Training • The Brunswick Fire Company No. 1 shall monitor and maintain records of personnel training. • There shall be an annual review of the training program. A training record for each member shall be maintained.

  13. 04-25Right to Know • Non-Routine Tasks • The Chief’s Office shall notify all persons required performing non-routine tasks, in advance, of any pertinent hazardous information. • MSDS sheets shall also be provided.

  14. 04-25Right to Know • Non-Routine Tasks • The use of proper personal protection equipment (PPE) shall strictly be enforced by the Chief’s Office. • All tasks and work projects shall be environmentally friendly and shall be performed in a safe environment.

  15. 04-25Right to Know • Non-Routine Tasks • These areas must provide adequate ventilation, lighting, noise/sound control, and sure footing. • No person shall work alone while performing these tasks. At least one other member shall be in the area and be made aware of work being done.

  16. 04-25Right to Know • Contractors • All outside contractors shall meet with the Building Committee Chairperson prior to all work approved by the Board of Directors only. • All the provisions of section E shall apply.

  17. 04-25Right to Know • Contractors • The Building Committee Chairperson shall notify the contractor of any know hazardous materials that they may encounter and shall have access to the MSDS. • All contractors shall be supplied with a MSDS sheet.
