  3. AFFIRMATIVE: (telling someone to do something) • We use the second person singular form of a verb (the “you” form) • Examples: • Go! • Walk! • Listen! How do we do this in ENGLISH?

  4. Basically, instead of saying it as a statement: • You go to the store. • Drop the “you” and just say the verb! • You go to the store.  Go to the store. • You feed the dog  Feed the dog. How do we do this in ENGLISH?

  5. NOW IN SPANISH…

  6. AFFIRMATIVE: (telling someone to do something) • We use the second person singular form of a verb (the “tú” form) also! • Tú form • Drop the -s • Examples: • caminar caminas  camina How do we do this in SPANISH?

  7. Write the affirmative command: • escuchar • comer • probar • escribir • lavar PRACTICE! escuchas escucha comes  come pruebas prueba escribes  escribe lavas  lava

  8. Write the affirmative command: • Take out the trash! • Wash the dishes! • Clean the bathroom! PRACTICE! ¡Saca la basura! ¡Lava losplatos! ¡Limpia el baño!

  12. Attach it to the end of the command • Examples: • Comer el sándwich • Lavarlosplatos • Sacar la basura  • Pedir la sopa  Affirmative Cómelo Lávalos Sácala Pídela

  13. Do I need accent marks? How do I know where to put them? • If the command…. • has a DOP attached to the end • 3+ syllables long • …then you add an accent to the second to last syllable of the verb. • Example: • Lavalos (Wash them) • DOP attached? Yes • 3+ syllables? Yes • Lávalos Accent Marksáéíóú second to last syllable last syllable

  14. Write the affirmative command: • Mix it! (la ensalada) • Heat it up! (la pizza) • Serve them! (losrefrescos) PRACTICE! ¡Mézclala! ¡Caliéntala! ¡Sírvelos!

NEGATIVE: (telling someone to do something) • We use the first person singular form of a verb (the “yo” form) • Write “no” • Yo form of verb • Drop the –o • Add the opposite ending -ar verbs  add –es -er/ir verbs  add –as • Examples: • caminar camino  camines • ¡No camines! (Don’t walk!) • abrir  abro  abras • ¡No abras el libro! (Don’t open the book!) How do we do this in SPANISH?
