First some key terms-there will be a test • Retention • Persistence • Progression • Student Achievement Initiative (SAI) • Grad drop data • Title III • Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) • Substantial Progress • Standards of Academic Progress-(SAP) • Early Alert • Faculty Advising Support Tools (FAST)

  3. Purpose of the group Develop a retention plan • Define Current State • Define desired state • Select Strategies • Develop Action Plans • Develop measurement plans for each strategy • Evaluate Progress: Modify of Institutionalize Source-Noel-Levitz

  4. Data –current state Quantitative • SAI-(SBCTC, Title III, and strategic planning) • Title III-Early alert, SAP, substantial progress (SBCTC) • Grad Drop data • Fact book Qualitative • Surveys-CCSEQ, D.O.C, withdrawing student

What we know-Current data • Completions are flat • Substantial progress is flat for last two years • SAI –still make most points Basic Skills, no change in 30 CLV, quantitative reasoning, or 45 credits/degree/cert • Grad Drop data show students leave with a large number of credits without earning an award • Student satisfaction with advising-CCSEQ, graduate surveys

  6. Cont. • More faculty are utilizing Early Alert • More students on SAP are showing up as early alerts

  7. Desired State Not one clear idea. Broadly-improved retention and completion

What we have done-strategies & action plans • Changed staffing in student services • Changed placement procedure & Compass cut scores • Added multiple sections of College Strategies • Target mailings to students nearing completion • Expanded testing to evenings • Created an online system for early alerts (FAST) • Establish an intervention strategy for at-risk students

  10. Now What?-evaluate progress • Report results: SEM, Title III, IE, accreditation • Are current measure still useful? Change? Add? • How will new accreditation standards and strategic plan influence the work of this group? • Data questions for further research? • Services that currently are not available? • What is LWTC’s definition of student success?
