  1. Professional Development Management System(PDMS) A tutorial for Delaware Educators Charlie Michels PSB Executive Director

  2. The Fine Print……. • The PDMS is indeed a newly published system for the registration, management and tracking of Delaware educator professional development. • All parties are committed to the success of the PDMS. • All of the directions contained in this tutorial are subject to change. • This tutorial will self-destruct in 5 minutes.

  3. The PDMS will initially be placed online for the professional development clusters. It is planned that the PDMS will then be ‘open’ for all other Delaware Department of Education professional development opportunities at the onset of the 2008-2009 school year.

  4. During the 2008-2009 school year, it is anticipated that districts, charter schools, educational agencies and professional organizations will be able to take advantage of the opportunities that the PDMS will afford them for developing awareness, notifications and registration of professional development activities.

  5. Accessing the PDMS • Delaware Educators will gain access to the PDMS by opening the web link to DDOESSO: https://login.doe.k12.de.us/DDOESSO • (see the next page)

  6. The DE DOE SingleSignOn link may take you to a variety of options. • Select: Professional Development Management System • You will now need a couple of‘clicks’ to get to your PDMS Home Page.

  7. Your PDMSHome Page screen will look like this.

  8. Within theMy Coursesblock:select ‘ View My Transcript ‘ • This optionunder ‘My Courses’ will allow you to view a transcript of professional development that you have registered for and completed through the PDMS or former successfully completed clusters. • University or College coursework will not be shown on the PDMS. • DEEDS will be ‘looking at’ the PDMS for professional development that is appropriate for Continuing Licensure and will be copying it into your DEEDS transcript.

  9. You notice that Zack has been slacking off a bit……

  10. Within theRequired Trainingblock: • This area is designated for professional development that might include a required school faculty meeting, a district curriculum workshop, a DPAS II conference, etc. • Until districts and charter schools are using the PDMS, educators will not see any Required Trainingposted.

  11. Zack has no PD listed asRequired Trainingat this time.

  12. Within theRecommended Trainingblock: • This would be for professional development opportunities that fit the educator’s demographics • You will notice that Zack is eligible to register for ‘ZZZ Cluster Test 2’ • This block will show all professional development opportunities that fit an educator’s demographic, including clusters that are open for registration. • An explanation of ‘demographics’ follows the next slide.

  13. What are ‘Demographics?’ • In the First State of Delaware, all educators are given a Position based on PHRST and the educator’s district or charter school’s designation. • This Position is connected to the SingleSignOn, and therefore to DEEDS and the PDMS. • In the PDMS, the Position becomes the educator’s ‘demographic’. • Clusters have been approved for participants who meet various ‘demographics’. • Not all professional development opportunities will be demographically limited.

  14. PDMS Demographics….. • Required=Professional development that an educator is mandated to attend ~ no clusters fit this category. • Recommended= Professional development opportunities that fit within an educator’s demographic, e.g., Administrator, Teacher, Pupil Support, etc. • Restricted= This professional development opportunity is only available for registration by educators who meet the approved demographic(s).

  15. Upon selecting the recommended professional development, Zack will have the ability to view the cluster, contact the Instructor and/or register.

  16. Upon viewing the Course Catalog page: • Read the Description and Category to determine if the professional development meets your professional goals, your School Success Plan and/or the District Strategic Plan. • Be sure you have met the Prerequisites (if any) as well.

  17. Zack’s registration page……and his brother is the Instructor……..….go figure!

  18. Within theCourse Searchblock on your PDMS Home Page: • Educators may ‘Search’ available professional development opportunities by Title or Description. • Once again, these will need to fit the educator’s ‘demographic’. • SelectingFind Courses will initiate the search.

  19. Zack is searching for professional development that contains Differentiated Instruction in the Description. He would then select Find Courses

  20. Zack now sees two different clusters that are open for registration and meet his demographics

  21. BySelectingone of the cluster’sView All Sections, he will be linked to the cluster section.

  22. Zack will now see a full description and details of the cluster.

  23. ……..and have the ability to self-register at the bottom left of the screen.

  24. You will find many other options shown and directions you may link to on your PDMSHome Page. • As the PDMS becomes more fully developed, you will find other professional development opportunities posted. • Be sure to check your PDMSHome Page frequently!

  25. That’s all folks……………
