  1. Biblical Truth Sam’s Soap Box

  2. Body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit....so don’t, drink smoke or each junk food.... • 1 Corinthians 6:19Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honour God with your body.

  3. In Context • 1 Corinthians 6:15-18 • 15Don’t you realize that your bodies are actually parts of Christ? Should a man take his body, which is part of Christ, and join it to a prostitute? Never! 16 And don’t you realize that if a man joins himself to a prostitute, he becomes one body with her? For the Scriptures say, “The two are united into one.” 17But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him. • 18 Run from sexual sin! No other sin so clearly affects the body as this one does. For sexual immorality is a sin against your own body.

  4. Give your tithes to the Lord • Malachi 3:10Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!

  5. Christian Giving • Romans 15:25,26; • 1 Corinthians 9:7-14; 16:1-3; • 2 Corinthians chapters 8 & 9; • Galatians 6:6-10; • Philippians 4:10-19; • 1 Timothy 5:9-18.

  6. Alcohol • Eph 5:18Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, 19 singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. • NIV is incorrect 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery.... • Debauchery – “excessive indulgence in sensual pleasures.” • The “Don’t” - A primary particle of qualified negation (whereas οὐ (G3756) expresses an absolute denial)

  7. Matt 11:18-19 • 18 For John didn’t spend his time eating and drinking, and you say, ‘He’s possessed by a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man, on the other hand, feasts and drinks, and you say, ‘He’s a glutton and a drunkard, and a friend of tax collectors and other sinners!’ But wisdom is shown to be right by its results.”

  8. John 2:1-11 • 2 .3 The wine supply ran out during the festivities, so Jesus’ mother told him, “They have no more wine.” • 6Standing nearby were six stone water jars, used for Jewish ceremonial washing. Each could hold twenty to thirty gallons (75-113 litres) .7 Jesus told the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” When the jars had been filled, 8 he said, “Now dip some out, and take it to the master of ceremonies.” So the servants followed his instructions. • 9 When the master of ceremonies tasted the water that was now wine, not knowing where it had come from (though, of course, the servants knew), he called the bridegroom over. 10 “A host always serves the best wine first,” he said. “Then, when everyone has had a lot to drink, he brings out the less expensive wine. But you have kept the best until now!”

  9. 1 Tim 3 • 3 This is a trustworthy saying: “If someone aspires to be an elder, he desires an honourable position.” 2 So an elder must be a man whose life is above reproach. He must be faithful to his wife. He must exercise self-control, live wisely, and have a good reputation. He must enjoy having guests in his home, and he must be able to teach.3 He must not be a heavy drinker or be violent. He must be gentle, not quarrelsome, and not love money. 4He must manage his own family well, having children who respect and obey him. 5 For if a man cannot manage his own household, how can he take care of God’s church?

  10. So I can eat drink and stop giving to God?

  11. BUT

  12. Absolute vs Good Idea • Absolute – don’t sleep with a prostitute. • Good idea – Don’t get drunk. • Absolute – Don’t tithe out of religious duty. • Good idea – Give generously. • Absolute – Find Christ and give your life to him. • Good idea – Listen to the Holy Spirit and live your life through him.
