  2. Session Outline What is the EOC? The EOC Up Close What does my student need to know? How can I help my student pass the Algebra EOC?

  3. WHAT IS THE EOC? The End of Course Assessment measures how well students have learned the Algebra standards. Our state tests measures students' performance against a set of learning standards.

  4. Graduation Requirements • Beginning with the class of 2015, students will have to pass two end-of-course exams. Those students can take two EOC exams (algebra 1 and geometry)

  5. WHAT DOES THE EOC LOOK LIKE? • The Algebra EOC consists of 37 questions. • 29 multiple choice • 5 completion • 3 short-answer • Unlike the MSP, the EOC is a paper and pencil test. Students will be able to use calculators and any state provided handouts.

  6. Sample Test Questions To get a feel for the type of questions and level of work needed to complete an EOC question we will now look at some sample questions.

  7. What does my student need to know? Every EOC question is linked to a specific Algebra standard. These standards are the foundation for all teaching at Chehalis Middle School. Let’s take a look!

  8. How can I help my child pass the msp? • Be informed! • Knowledge is power. Changes to the testing format and standards is ongoing. • See Parent Resource Handout for more resources • Build a strong relationship with teachers and staff at CMS. • Staying informed about your students progress is essential to identifying areas of concern. • Skyward • Teacher webpages • Midterms • We are always here to answer any questions you may have.

  9. How can I help my child pass the msp? • Find the positive in math! • A student’s attitude towards math can go a long way to improving their work. • Find math in the everything things. • Get your child involved in anything that reinforces mathematical ideas – • Cooking (measurement) • Building/construction (ratio, proportion, geometry) • Solving puzzles (algebraic thinking)
